My Powerbook 5300 is a mess

I do love my Pwb 5300, but it's a mess.

I repaired the hinges a couple of times, and yesterday i was unable to use the trackpad button.

I have just discovered that both plastic mounts are gone, i tried to glue the things back using some sort of epoxy stuff... and it's working average :'(

To get the Powerbook working the PSU plug should be hold firmly (i welded it back a couple of times already)

I should probably look for another casing, but all of them are probably more or less gone. :disapprove:

Hi! Great to hear I am not the only one messing with a 5300.

Well the PowerBook 5300 series and its relatives are quite prone to damage from use. Hinges especially.

You can try to use some case parts from a PowerBook 190 which is very similar in design.

Use epoxy wisely!

The stupid part about the 5300 is that the video cable to the monitor is twisted around the hinges. Mine is damaged (a little bit snapped) and the monitor sometimes keep blinking in brightness...

I have six 190/5300 series machines. All were acquired fully functional. (four of them I acquired pre-2000.)

I presently have one fully functional 190/5300 series machine.

Yes, the hinges were already repaired, once under the Apple repair program (the serial number has a AA label ) and i used epoxy to repair those again when the casing get broken.

MY 530)CS also doesn't have hinges; one of these was broken in a way that prevented to open or close it without using force, so I removed them. I should propably screw the upper part together sometime...

(Yes, the trackpad works, I just prefer to use a mouse. I wish it was optical, through]

I've got a pair of the 5300ce version and a 5300c that are fine and almost entirely assembled. One lid needs to be torn down and have the spring mechanism for the latch serviced. I've got a few 190/5300 PartsBooks in various stages of disrepair/hackage, so I can very likely scrounge up a pair of hinges. [:)] ]'>

Dang, the the dragging tactile feedback of the rollerball mechanism is the best feature of a rodent when it comes to doing graphics work as far as I'm concerned.

Be that as it may, I keep a spare wireless optical in HP_Mini's travel bag.

I have a decent 5300 case with hinges I could part with I think. Ill take a look.
That would be interesting ;)

I doesn't like the non-optical mice, because they require cleaning. And with the amount of dust and other stuff getting into it, they are harder to operate.

(I never cleaned mice in PCs. Or well, maybe once .)
