My first “conquest” post

So this is my first “conquest” post, though I’ve never really liked the term as it implies a loser is involved in a deal, but I still like the idea of sharing finds. Our very own @ScutBoy hooked me with some awesome gear including ProFile drives. I finally decided to set up my Apple III after, ironically trading one to @ScutBoy years ago.  He was nice enough to meet half way to help deliver the ProFiles and other parts including a Brainstorm accelerator that will be used for cloning.  Since I now have an extra one, it has given me the idea...  What kind of cool thing could be done with a ProFile?  Would it be cool to build a custom PI case, build new cases and make SSD drive housing out of them?  Let me know what you guys think.

Excuse the extremely cluttered basement. I’ve been so slammed that things are just all over the place.  The ANS is also from @ScutBoy from years ago. Still one of my favorite systems.

There's lot of cool things in this picture (besides the Apple III of course) - you have one of those Apple dealer posters from ~1978/1979 or so I think?

Your SE looks very close to its original colour, did you retrobright it? Is that a Kensington system saver or a different fan?

Do you have any more photos to share of your space (even if its cluttered, it would be really interesting to see).

Sorry for all the questions :)

Glad you got a chance to play with some of your new toys! :)

What's that on top of the /// and monitor? Looks kind of like a DuoDisk with the slots blanked out. Can't make out the text at all.

Yep, that's right it is a late 70s dealer type poster.  The SE is all original, I don't own anything that has ever received retrobright treatment.  That one was actually owned by Apple as one of their first production SE FDHDs and it was taken around the world to demonstrate the "new" SE version.  I think it was even featured on Computer Chronicles but I can't find the video clip.  It still has the asset tag.  The guts were replaced with all new old stock parts (CRT, logic board, power supply, memory, analog board, PC floppy PDS card, etc).  The keyboard and mouse for that was also NOS.  The external PC 5.25 was actually mint in box but not quite the same vibrant platinum.

I think this photo was the first one I've taken of my basement hobby room.  I finished that area of the basement just to house the ever growing collection.  I suppose one day I'll tidy it up and take more photos.  My wife accepted a job in downtown Indianapolis so we have an apartment we spend most days and one day a week we come back to our small home in NW Indiana.  Because of that and the fact that I'm preparing for a large shipment of clear IIe cases and other stuff coming from China and need to clear a large area of the house for storage, I've not had much time to work on the hobby room.

@ScutBoy What a great eye!  I knew posting this would have someone be able  to pick out some interesting treasure in the photo.  That is actually much thinner than the DuoDisk, it was a very early development concept made by Apple in the mid-80s.  It was supposed to be a hard drive for the Apple IIe (hence why it matches), however, it never made it outside of the concept phase and the project was scrapped to allow Apple to focus on the Macintosh line.

Anyone else see anything fun? :)

I'm honestly in love with that network server. Been reading about them lately and although setting up a network server for vintage macs nowadays is extremely easy with a ton more space and speed that can ever be offered by that one, it's still a sight to see! And you SE's are impeccable!

It didn't look exactly like the DuoDisk, which is why I was hoping I could read the small text.

I also see what looks like an odd clear keyboard behind the clear IIe. Sort of looks like the IIgs keyboard with function keys.

I see you also added a DAT drive to the ANS. I'd like to find one of those someday, but it's not a big deal.

I was excited that I found a clear "prison TV" with composite in at FreeGeek last weekend - would have been a great add to my clear IIe when my case arrives. Sadly it was non functional. They seem to be around on eBay, so I'll track one down eventually.

Is this the clip by chance?

edit: Maybe not, missed the FDHD part

@Torbar I saw that entire episode and got excited thinking it was that one, but unfortunately not.  I'm sure the clip must be out there somewhere though.

@ScutBoy I have transparent CRT here that I couldn't figure out how to convert RF Coax to RCA, the 'adapter' I used didn't convert signal apparently.  You can gave it if you want.  I also have some links to other things you might want including the DAT drive ANS stuff.  I'll think I'll have to tidy up the basement to share more photos of the stuff I have.  I'm still digging out all the old storage items that have been stored for 15+ years.

@BacioiuC Thanks, I love the ANS!  Its the prize of my collection, I need to figure out how to set it up as I recently tried to use it and its in some kind of strange mode.  I have enough new old stock AppleTalk parts to make the whole basement on the network and have bridges, etc.  Never ending things to do - but I love it :)

I think I know which one it is, as I saw a lot of CC episodes during boring meetings:

could it be this one? Right at the beginning?

I remember there was another se one when talking about networking where an SE was featured!

@BacioiuC That could be it, but I don't know for sure.  And the worst part is that the asset tags and stuff is on the back so its not something that can be seen in the video.  Then again, maybe I should just be happy knowing it was on there in some capacity.
