Do you have any of these recovery CDs? It looks like it was a 4 volume set, and while volume 4 is easily found online (Legacy SW), I haven’t found volume 1 (Application SW):

Apple Application Software Recovery CD
Apple System Software 1 Recovery CD
Apple System Software 2 Recovery CD

If you do, it would be great if you could image them and upload them to the Internet Archive or the Garden!

Those are all great CDs. Any one of them would be fantastic to have. Matches well with a TechStep or other official repair guides & software. :)

Well, I did stop buying them from eBay so any that pop up now are free from my searching and bidding/buying fingers.

Many that I have were between $50-75 each.

I probably have in the neighborhood of 6TB of software to upload to the Garden, which happens at a slow pace for me. Given the number of files and then the time it takes to upload at 5mbps and the time involved in creating new pages for them , it’s a daunting task.

I’m presently working on some of the Apple Reference and Presentation Library CDs that aren’t online. See the massive bin of CDs, most aren’t up there.

@slomacuser

This one is October 1999, yours is November 1999. Please archive yours and upload!

This one is September 2000, yours is May 2000. Not as critical to upload, but it would be good to have archived, in case there are things removed on future ones.

As for the other System Software Recovery you have, which shows 'For PowerMacintosh G3 and iMac', I don't see this one on the Garden.

If you can, perhaps just archive the 5 and upload to the pages I linked here for legacy software and system software recovery, just in case, please and very please!

Yes, yes I am. And I have had a heck of a time trying to get one.

The neat thing about the Mac OS X Developer Previews 1 and 2 (and I think 3 also?) is that with a simple change to a file or two (or something; I forget), one can disable the prototype Aqua interface and use the Rhapsody-style Platinum theme instead.

If only the retail releases of Mac OS X from 10.0 to 10.2 had that option....

Nothing to see here…. Move along….

Spoiler: I’ve compiled all of the apple site-licensed software from all of the internal Apple CDs into one place. Its 10GB and I have another 20GB of my own software from the past.

30GB, what is the best way to get this into people’s hands?

I was thinking of a page on the garden with image files for each category of app (Graphics, Database, Spreadsheet, etc). Thoughts?

Can you give a few examples of what some of those internal CDs were called?

Maybe keep these separate, as it sounds like the first one is the internal Apple CD stuff and the 2nd is your own collection? So you could make both available but separately.

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landside,
No escape from reality.
Open your eyes,
Look up to the skies and see…

I wonder if it'd be possible to hack the MacOS GUI back into OS X by using the resources from Rhapsody / OS X Server 1.0. Or did the GUI use the ill-fated vector-based GUI system?

Wow... that is just fantastic ... so great. I'm very impressed, and your pictures are always the best (like being there), thanks for that, I can almost smell the packaging...

One just needs to hack it together from the Developer Previews, as they’re based on Darwin and likely more closely related to the shipping OS X.

Even so, I think this would only really be possible with early Mac OS X (10.0 through 10.2, maybe 10.3), since beyond that shipping Mac OS X (as far as I know) has relatively little in common with the developer previews GUI-wise.

Right?

I think it’s a daunting (if not completely impossible) challenge for someone to pull off. The best success would be with one of the developer previews of the Darwin-based OS X over the Rhapsody/ OSX Server 1.x builds, if it were at all possible even.
