Macintosh IIci "Redcap" polymer can recap.

Not as cool as I had imagined, but I still like the Würth Elektronik caps. Similar tolerances and high hour rating to Nichicon and Panasonic, but much cheaper. I was hoping they'd pop more in contrast with the green motherboard. Save for the red, it does look more stock than the tantalums I used to have in there. So I still like it better. :)

I should really take a picture of the VCR I recapped with WEs. It's what inspired me to re-recap my IIci.

These were a lot harder to solder without a heat gun (I don't have one.) Managed to do it with some extra sticky flux and some solder paste.

@cheesestraws These are the polymers, so they won't leak like the electrolytics. Should be good for years. Only thing I need to worry about is the battery. :) I do have Network Time control panel installed on my IIci, so it's not too bad.

Sorry, I wasn't talking about yours here: I meant capacitors I have bought for analogue boards, which I got from Wurth because of the colour they are. I gathered yours were polymer. Sorry for the confusion :).

Me on wednesday: "You know, one should probably make engineering decisions based on measurements of what you actually need; it'll save a lot of trouble later"

Me on thursday: "I'm buying these capacitors because they're a pretty colour, no need to read the datasheet, I'm sure they'll be fine..."

My IIci didn't want to boot the other day. We had a brown-out during the rain, my IIci randomly turned on ... then randomly turned off. Pressed the power button on the keyboard, no life. Pressed the power button the rear of the case, no life.

It showed sporadic life as I unplugged the power cable. Really weird. So I ordered some capacitors, a replacement bridge rectifier (just in case), and went ahead and got a Noctua fan. It's 3 dB quieter and moves 10m3 more air than the stock fan.

Unfortunately I don't have an extra PSU. I really hope my IIci didn't get fired during a power surge.

Edit: Fuse in the power supply seemed fine.
Edit Edit: I also couldn't figure out how to test the PSU without using a soft-power on.

:( Looking more like it's my computer. How do I test a power supply outside of the IIci? Are there pins to short to get the PSU to turn on?
