I recently got two lots of Macintosh Computers, Software and Accessories for my Collection. The first lot I got was from noidentity for the Low, Low price of Free (Thanks BTW). It makes up 3/4 of my Macintosh Collection. Included was a:

Power Macintosh 6100/66 (Other then needing a new battery, it works and looks great.)

Macintosh Performa 6214CD (It also needs a new battery and works and looks great.)

Macintosh 8100 Motherboard (I am going to use it for parts if I get a Power Macintosh 8100.)

Macintosh Quadra 660AV (It needs some restoration, So I am going to make a post on this.)

Macintosh IIsi (This was his in 1992. It also needs restoration and I will make a post on this as well.)

Macintosh 13" Triniton Color RGB Monitor (This was also his back in 1992. Works and looks great.)

Also included was:

A Few Cables and Adapters (For Audio, Video and ADB. Some are Offical Apple onces, Some are not.)

A Few Modems, Internet Adapters and Cables (Some are Offical Apple ones, Some of them are not.)

A Zip Drive (It Came the Power Cable and about 10 disks. On the Disks are Games, Software, Etc.)

A Bunch Of Manuals and Papers for Various Macintosh Computers, Software and Accessories.)

And a bunch of other goodies.

The second lot was a Macintosh Plus for $25 (Not $250) that I got off of Craigslist. Included was a:

Macintosh Plus in Incredible Condtion (It looks like it was only used a few times. It even has the Yellow Plastic Floppy Disk.)

Macintosh External 3.5" Disk Drive (This is Really helpful for Opening Programs and Games. It works and Looks Great.)

Macintosh Plus Keyboard (It looks and works like new. It even has the Original Cable to Connect it to the Macintosh Plus.)

Macintosh Mouse (They said they didn't have it, but they must have either found it or had forgotten that it was in the...)

Carrying Case (It can Carry The Macintosh Plus, Accessories and Pretty Much anything else that you want to have carried.)

A Cooling Fan (This will Hopefully increase the lifespan of the Macintosh Plus by Many Years. It Works and Looks great.)

All of the Original Software in the Box (Comes with Utilities, Tools, Software Sampler and Your Tour to Macintosh Disks.)

Tons of Manuals, Guides and Brochures (Macintosh Plus Manual, Macintosh 3.5" Disk Drive Manual, Macintosh Stylewriter II Print Sample, Macintosh Utilities Software Booklet, "I Didn't Know I Could Do That!" Brochure and other Manuals and Papers.)

For $25, I am very happy with everything that I got.

Far out, I thought I'd done well, but that takes the cake!

PS - The header reminded me of Professor Farnsworth!

remove the batteries from old computers

no battery = no leaks

It's good to remove batteries from anything being stored for more than a few months. Unfortunately you can't (easily) remove electrolytic capacitors, which also leak and destroy things, like Mac IIsi computers :(

Just FYI, it will also fit into the case from a IIvi, IIvx, Performa 600, Centris/Quadra 650, and PM7100. The 8100 case is regarded as notoriously difficult to work with, so you may consider one of these as an alternative.

Great! Thank you Bunsen for that bit of info. The 8100 case is indeed awful to work with, right up there with the 8500. My 8100 probably still works, apart from the video card having rotted somehow so if I get it running again it is good to know that I have some options here.

Do not say bad things about the 8500. I know the case can be a pain to work with, but it is still one of my all time favourite Macs.

The 6x AV machine is pure win though. I have wanted one of those for many years. Yes I know they are underpowered a bit and the 8500 or 7600 is a clear step up, but there is something about the machine that just grabs me.

Another point - the 8100 is the same case and power supply as the Quadra 800 and 840av, so if you'd rather have the tower even with the trickiness of working inside, they are your alternatives. LEM claims the 8500 is the same case, too, but at a minimum the power supply and backplane must be different.

Those cases are slightly different. The 840av and probably 800 differ from a 8500 as to where the power button is in the front of the case. The PPC models have different floppy covers then the Nubus ones (different hole placement for the emergency eject. The rear of the 8100 has a different layout then the Nubus models (especially that odd video port you need adapters for).
