Macintosh Classic 7.5.3 issues

before anyone replies, let me preface this with: I KNOW the hardware should not realistically be using this version. That's not my question :p

I successfully installed OS 7.5.3 using the archive.org page of the original (legal) apple.com downloads. I booted it up for the first time, only to receive a bomb "illegal instruction" after loading PC exchange. It also complained about "apple photo view" not being installed properly.

This was a complete install (but only system for the classic) including all the extras.

I tried booting without extensions and uninstalling all the color / powerbook stuff, but got the same results with a normal boot.

The machine is maxed out at 4mb ram, and is using an external SCSI drive to boot, with a 4gb and ~300mb partition (the latter being the boot partition).

Going to attempt an OS reinstall and carefully look over each item to make sure it's compatible.

Same results with all extensions turned off via the extension manager. Boots up fine while holding shift to load without extensions, though.

This machine with 4MB of GOOD RAM should run System 7.5.3 just fine as I have done so in the past.

Something else is wrong with this machine. Might want to run an earlier system software and run one of those mac diagnostics programs to see if it comes back with a RAM issue or some other unknown issue.

just disabled stuff I didn't need and it ran fine. I am having a load of unimplemented trap + illegal instruction issues with MacTCP and FreePPP...

the MacTCP on 7.5.3 just wouldnt work, and I had to resort to MacPPP as well.
