Mac SE iPad Case

I have an empty Mac SE Case sitting here, I saw the iPad case made out of a Classic II and thought why not out of an SE.. Im going to make it in the next couple days after the case sits in retrobright for a day.. Should be interesting.. I wonder if an iMate with the iPad camera connection kit would allow the old Apple Extended Keyboard to connect to it?? Interesting Possibility

Theoretically I'm pretty sure that would be able to work. However, you've got to bear in mind that the iPad simply may not be able to supply enough current to reliably operate such an old keyboard as well as the iMate adapter. I'd be inclined, myself, to use one of those microcontroller-based ADB -> USBHID convertors, and supply (if you're clever, what you could do here is use the SE's original mains plug at the back, to connect to both an iPad charger (hell, you could whip up a custom charger circuit for it yourself)), and also a 5v supply so you can power other things - hell, make it one 5V 3A supply and you've got enough to charge the iPad at 1100mA and power a few USB toys!

That said, I doubt there's anything to be lost by trying :)

Does the iPad camera connection kit allow you to connect a USB keyboard? I know you can use a Bluetooth keyboard with it but I haven't heard of someone using a USB keyboard with one. If you can though, and you have enough current to run the iMate + keyboard, from memory the iMate makes an attached keyboard show up as a standard USB keyboard so I can't see why it couldn't be done.

I've tried using keyboards with the camera kit on my iPad and some work, some don't. In fact I think my Apple keyboard didn't work but some other random keyboards did. Might be the extra power wanted by the built-in hub that causes it not to work...

In the SuperDuo thread, I suggested the notion of a Color Lid Duo as the perfect place to put an iPad 2.

It'll require remapping the KBD Flex circuit's connections to a compatible generic KBD controller and the ADB TrackBall to something useful . . .

. . . but it'd make a VERY  Portable iPad Case w/peripherals and plenty of hackspace and backup battery compartment . . .

. . . since you'd be cutting a lid opening anyway, you could use it open w/pad facing in, closed w/pad facing in or out . . .

. . . and a DVD popping in-n-out of the open Docking Port Door would be the bomb! }:)

With the lid opening, a thinner, dime a dozen, Duo 2xx/B&W Lid w/slightly protruding 'Pad, it would be more sleek in its lines. ;)

Ugh. This is a Duo keyboard we're talking about - why would you bother?? Just get a USB miniature keyboard and fit it in the space. If the Duo keyboard works worth a damn use it on a Duo!
