Mac Mini G4 boxed

I received a Mac Mini yesterday, which I found on eBay and won for only £66 inc shipping.

Specs are

1.42GHz G4 - but the computer reports it as 1.5 GHz ?

512MB DDR SDRAM

Fresh install of OSX Tiger

80GB hard drive

Airport

Bluetooth

I thought it was nice to pick up a complete example of this iconic Mac, I remember the Stevenote for this one well.

Very nice find! Looks like you got the secret speed-bumped model produced in the final months. It's like the LCIII+ of G4 Minis. In addition to the fastest CPU on a PPC mini, this one also came with a faster HDD, double the VRAM (64 vs 32), and a faster SuperDrive (if configured with one) vs the advertised 1.42 model.

In case you weren't already aware, the smart guys at ... can't remember, someone else will fill it in, have worked out how to boot the G4 Mini with OS9.

So you won this in the end?

My max. bid on this was £43. There are a fair few 1.5GHz mac mini G4s in the UK. I`ve found 2 already in the last few months (I've won one and lost this one). If the serial number isn't given, I ask for it. There is a useful link at everymac.com here: https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/

In the end, if it is going to be used for Mac OS 9.2.2, the speed and the amount of VRAM isn't all that important. There are few games where it makes a difference. What's more of a nuisance is the fact that the internal speaker doesn't work under Mac OS 9.2.2. I've gotten around this by plugging a portable bluetooth speaker into the headphone socket.

There is a fellow in Switzerland selling an overclocked mac mini G4 [1], so they are overclockable. One has to be careful.

It's actually a 1.25Ghz mini.
