Mac IIfx manuals / accessories / packing list

Does anyone know exactly which manuals/accessories were packed with a IIfx?

If anyone has a IIfx packing list, that would be helpful.

I found these photos from someone who got a boxed/sealed IIfx but I don't have photos of everything. You can see a little pile of stuff there under the Thanks letter.

I know at the very least there was an Owner's Guide, and a 'Special Options and Technical Information' booklet (I have that one), and a set of floppies (I have the IIfx tour disk, but not the other floppies).

Found an old ebay listing via worthpoint that mentioned the following

Macintosh IIfx Owner's Guide - Users Manual• Original Apple IIfx: "Getting Started with your Macintosh " Set Up Guide Book. Sealed & Unopened. • Original Apple IIfx: "Hypercard Basics". Guide. Sealed & Unopened • Original Apple IIfx: "Macintosh Reference" Guide. Sealed & Unopened

Does anyone have copies of these? Would they be the same as copies of Macintosh Reference guide, Getting Started and Hypercard Basics that shipped with other machines?

OK, finally managed to dig out the IIfx packing list from the AppleLink CD January 1993, which is available here https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/applelink-cd

This one is slightly more useful as it has the part numbers for the manuals and disks.

I have two of the mentioned disks:
  • "Welcome" (690-5555-A)
  • "Looking inside your Macintosh IIfx" (690-5556-A)
In the packing lists, I think the "Welcome" disk is listed as "Macintosh Basics". Not sure why mine says Welcome on the label instead.

When I have a bit more time, I can scan the disk labels and recreate them as vector files in case anyone wants to recreate their own copies. I also need to image the disk contents as well.

I have two of the booklets:
  • Setting Up Your Macintosh Ilfx 030-3909
  • Macintosh IIfx Special Options and Technical information 030-3910
These are both short guides printed in colour, not spiral bound. When I have more time, I'll scan these and clean them up and upload as PDFs on the Internet Archive for prosperity.

The system software disks listed in the packing list with part numbers were for System Software v6.0.5. I am not sure how different they would be to other 6.0.5 disks or if it's just the same as what could already be downloaded or found on the various archives of Mac system software (e.g. Legacy recovery, etc).

So, it looks like I'm less short than I thought I was in terms of the stuff that's meant to go with a IIfx. It doesn't seem there was actually ever an 'Owner's Guide' for the IIfx, like there was for other II series machines.

I'll keep posting info in this thread as I find more...

Unfortunately the packing lists on the AppleLink CD are in text format, not as a formatted document like the original would've been.

Some time ago, I scanned and uploaded my copy of an original Macintosh Classic packing list to the Internet Archive:

I assume this is close to what the IIfx packing list would've looked like, so I'll attempt a recreation using that format.

If anyone does have original copies, it would be really nice to see them.

Here's a few bits I managed to convert to PDF, found on the ARPL (Apple Reference and Presentations Library) V2.0 disc.

Some of the formatting in the product data sheets went a bit wonky, I need to fix that when I have more time.

Regarding that 'Thanks for choosing Macintosh' - there is a different version available on archive.org: https://archive.org/details/apple-030-3357/mode/1up. I hope the one seen here gets archived as well, I quite like these :)
That was archived by me a little while ago, and yes it's an earlier version.

The person that bought the sealed IIfx has been in touch with me, he's going to check what he has. I'm hopeful that we can get enough info/photos/scans to be able to reproduce everything that came with a IIfx.

I just had a go at recreating the longer version of the IIfx packing list, and I think it's come out fairly good... probably needs some formatting tweaks/tidying but it's a start. I haven't seen the real packing list yet so it could be quite a bit off - but hopefully it's convincing?

@Danamania had a go at recreating the Thanks letter seen in the first photo of this thread. As usual with her work, it looks great.

@tvj Thanks for sharing these. What you have there looks like 'Number 1 Book: Open first to set up your Macintosh. ' from the longer packing list I posted earlier in this thread, so at least we know that's accurate. The style of that book looks similar to what they bundled with IIci and IIsi computers later on.

Would you mind taking photos of the Hypercard and Registration tabs of that book/folder as well ?

Would you be open to scanning any of the pages and scanning the front/back of the floppy disks?

I wonder if the contents of the accessory kit would change as time progressed. Such that, what was included with a IIfx in the months after launch would have been different than the contents at its end of life. I'd love to have a full accessory kit for my IIfx, so I appreciate your efforts as well.

Are you targeting an original, the late one, or just any kit (complete)?

Any/all or parts of - mostly for archival purposes but if there is any chance I can expand what I have in my collection then that would be great too, but I'd imagine most people who have any of this would want to hang onto them.

They did, see the two packing lists I posted earlier in this thread -- it looks like they reduced the amount of stuff that was bundled later on.

I finally had some time to scan my copy of the "Setting Up Your Macintosh IIfx" guide (Apple document # Z030-3909-A). I didn't just scan it and upload as-is, I spent the time to crop, straighten, and adjust the colour balance and retype headings and inserted high res Apple logos for the back/front covers, to make it look as clean as possible:

I still need to do my copy of the Special Options booklet, that will be next. I'm still on the hunt for photos or scans of the other booklets/documents that haven't been archived yet.
