Lots of new members?

Or is it just me and this is normal for this board? I noticed at least 3 new members posts in the forum after I joined today. Is this normal or are more and more people pulling out their old Macs lately and trying to get them running again? It leads me to wonder how many are going to get them running and use them or whether they plan to sell or place back into storage. Personally, I never meant for mine to stay in storage so long. It was due to the way my life was and a lack of space, which I have now. I don't plan on collecting too many more Macs myself. I feel that I've saved plenty and donated most of them after I fixed them up. I mainly want to use my favorites in making music and exploring old software and games with them. Hope this topic has not been covered to death before now. If so, my apologies.

All forums (that are active) are about the same. You have people who join just to sell stuff, people who join to get help making something run then get bored and move on to something else, people who stick around a year and post non stop then burn out, and long term collectors who have been around for years. Then there the few banned people who try to sneak in with a new name every so often only to get banned again.

OK. That's what I figured. I am a member of some pro audio groups that are similar. I really didn't realize a group for 68k Macs existed here although I had seen the name before coming up in searches. I am into much of the same type of things you mention in your signature, Unknown_K. Anything Nubus for audio or video and Mac IIs are some of my favorites too. I still have a Spigot II Tape and a regular Spigot card in their original boxes although the Spigot II Tape is about to go back into my monster IIci. :) I sure wish I still had my Audiomedia II card but I sold it with a Radius 81/110 I used to have. Glad to meet you.

I guess I am a sort-of-new guy. I tend to go crazy with Mac projects for a couple months of the year, but then the rest of my life swamps me. Also I was on the old list more regularly before it vanished and didn't re-connect for a while. If circumstances let me I would play with my Macs - and Ataris - every day, but my work days are usually 12-20 hours long. It was easier in NYC when I couldn't find work for years, but found lots of computers everywhere. Since I typically have had money OR time, my current strategy is to get better organized, to enjoy what free time I have.

I think there is more interest in old Macs now. I often see mention of 68kmla, Fritter, and LEM in unexpected places. Some of it may be that notorious "halo effect" of more switchers and iPod/iPhone/iPad people. Also people wanting to explore the high-end hardware and software for cheap that they couldn't afford when it was new. Floods of new members are often fickle, though, as their roving attentions drift on to other things. The truly fixated people are never far off!

Then there are those new members that come in and post hard, then life hits them HARD.... Then they drift back out, and totally forget to send cd's to people they promised (even after said cd's got redelivered back to me TWICE by the post office)... UnknownK.. That's your stuff.. PM me one more time, because I'm obviously doing something VERY wrong with your address for that to happen. ;)

Work and life do strange things to people. This is still one of the BEST boards I've been on in my long history of computing.

I like IIcGuy and UnknownK , and not forgetting Bunsen :) am into the older Nubus and semi vintage audio and video gear. One day I'll get a working PCI AVID yet. Anyone have 7.2??? PCI or 6.5 NUBUS/PCI in working shape? I have the dongle. I"m still searching even with the help of UnknownK.. Sooooo close to getting it working but yet so far.

I FINALLY made the trip to Indiana last week after purchasing from the guy on Ebay back in November.. (See it was everyone that got postponed! ;) )

The guy has a 2 story probably 100 by 60 warehouse of industrial and AV surplus. INCREDIBLE and I was in heaven! I'll take requests if you have any and make a trip to him again. He's a great guy!

So with that said, not sure I count as a new member but maybe a resurrected old soul member...

I'll post pictures of the goodies I got from him.

1. AVID 35 GIG DLT external drive

2. JL COOPER CS-10 control desk - minus 9volt ps

3. Spectral Systems (Audio) ISA full board set with hard drive and full manuals in working condition (1/4" jack in/outs only)

4. The grand daddy - JL Cooper Magi II - Voltage Controlled Amplifer system. 32 channels with 16 channel mixer and probably the BEST shape Mac II machine I have ever seen. All working condition. And all working software for Mac and Atari. Can't imagine what that thing cost new in 89 -90 time frame.

Maybe I'll be active again and life won't swamp me for a while :)
