So this old Lisa KB only barely worked if you really banged the keys.
It's in pretty good shape otherwise for being 38 years old.
I finally got some new foam pads and replaced the old ones.
The old pads literally disintegrated into dust when I popped them out. I had to do it over a trashcan to catch the pieces.
Installing the new pads was fairly straightforward however I wouldn't try it unless you have a tool like the one I used. It really was necessary to avoid mangling the pads when getting the plastic backing into the clips.
Also, when the pad is properly installed it should be almost level.
I had to go back and recheck all the pads to makes sure that all four clips were engaged by the backing.
Anyway, got it all done and dragged the Lisa 2 out to the shop to test the KB.
Every time I turn on the Profile drive I expect it not to spin up. But it did one more time.
I tested all the keys and they all worked with a much lighter touch now.
The only issue was I had was the caps lock key was bit flaky. I think it's just a bit worn and doesn't engage down far enough any more. But who cares.
The replacement pads worked perfect. My only observation was that the plastic backing seemed to be slightly less rigid (thinner) than the backing on the original pads. This made it a little harder to get them to lock into the clips.
Maybe this will inspire me to look into getting a functioning 400K floppy drive working in the Lisa 2 now.
