This afternoon both members of the Apple Vintage Group spend their time on a Lisa 2 owned by JW. It stood in the dark for 15 years and was still OK from the outside. But we realized that a Lisa2 could have a battery bomb inside. It had one and the battery was corroded but not beyond a dramatic level. So we cleaned the board, inspected the rest of the boards, and the power unit. All looked good. No bulky caps.
So we put everything back and tried to power on.
Nothing happened no blink no screen nothing. So we put in mine harness with boards. Now something happened..there was a flickering monitor.. Time to test the boards individually. After some fiddling with the video pods we had a better image. With my XL board we got an error on the I/O board. But....we had an image!
We switched back the original boards ...and lo and behold! The Lisa 2 was back to live.
Keybord was not really working but mine (refurbished) worked fine.
time to test with the FloppyEmu. This went wrong.....very wrong...I wanted to use the original floppy cable but put it in wrong. Smoke came out the FloppyEmu. Not dead at all definitely not working anymore....
Time to call it a day..The Lisa worked! That was the best what happened!
