Lightweight browser

Looking for the following browser (if such a thing even exists). Marked with * is required:

  • Supports HTML 4.0 spec (this is a must.. At least needs <FRAME>) *
  • Supports at least some CSS
  • Bookmarks, homepage, etc
  • Supports opening local HTML documents *
  • Supports at least 6.0.8...

    Lightweight
  • Supports 4mb ram systems *

I've tried MacWWW (doesn't support formatting at all...), MacWeb 1.0 (doesn't support system 6. no support for formatting), MacWeb 2.0/2.1 (doesn't support system 6. doesn't support css. only HTML 2.0 spec).

iCab, but it won't run on 4 MB or System 6.

The browser you want doesn't exist. Either upgrade your system to handle a larger one (you couldn't even run Netscape) or learn to live with the minimal formatting of the 3.2 and lower world.

Yeah, I think you're pretty SOL. Your 4MB/System 6 requirement is simply a bridge too far. Is the target machine a 68000? You could go to System 7 which would give you access to Netscape 3.x but I think you'd also need a 68020 or better CPU.

the problem is 68000 cpu is too slow to render jpg files and probably png files. However the last ones might be better to load.

So you need to find any browser that handles PNG files, dont care about CSS, java and such. Here's why:

http://pici.picidae.net/ It makes a clever snapshot of the web page in png files and lets you navigate around just like regular web, but damn fast (no java script and such)

Try something lighter like lowendmac.com inside Pici.
