Interware device software

I forget where I got this image from, whereever it did come from I downloaded the site but the point here is that the software was developed for Nakamichi by a company called Software Architects.

This is their site I think. There are a few companies with a similar name so it is hard to say with precision. http://swarchitects.com

It looks like the internet archive doesn't have any downloadable sit, sea, hqx and other related formats for the site mentioned so I am using wget but with wget of coutse, I can only download the current instance of the site and sadly it came up blank. At least there is a little bit of a lead. I also tried the internet archive search for "Software Architects" to determine if someone archived a disk or something but sadly nothing there either. I have to say that this is really tought software to find. If there was an actual file name of the Installer it could help.

This disk is for the Nakamichi MBR-7 which another company by the name of Mountain also marketed, in other words there is another product that is the same as the Nakamichi called the Mountain CD7

Interesting. There also exist TEAC CD-C68E or NEC CDR-4300A multi-disc 5.25" internal CDROM changers that are very similar to the Nak units; maybe they're related? I've actually seen a network CDROM server based on seven individual SCSI Nak MJ-5.16 drives for a total of 35 CDs.

I read (Google Translate) that website with the picture of the floppy, and it said that the software was never available for download like the Windows version.  You had to buy it.  So finding a copy online may be more difficult than usual.

Here is D2 CD Installer v4.0.7.

This software supports the following drives:  Nakamichi  MBR-7, MJ-4.8s, MJ-5.16s, amongst many others. See the Read Me, which accompies the installer.

http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/d2-cd-installer-v407 - the thing was just under our noses the whole time. Good thing we found out it was by Software Architects. The mac repository site has the same thing, even the screenshot is the same.

EDIT: there is at least one more recent version on the garden: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/driver-d2-440

Good news: the D2 CD software works for the various Nakamichi CD changers!

I selected a victim test subject in the form of my Pioneer MPC-LX200 and installed D2 CD v.4.0.7 under Mac OS 8.6, driving an externally-connected Nak MJ-5.16si. At first, the Nak drive mounted disc 1 and was aware of disc 2, but it wouldn't switch to it, either with front buttons (those just do eject; changing discs is all under software control, at least on Mac) or the D2 Control. I had to disable all other CD control extensions, before D2 CD would fully recognize and allow switching of discs in the Nak changer. The D2 CD system also controls the internal Pioneer CDROM in addition to a host of other CD drives listed in the Read Me, so other CD control extensions aren't generally necessary; however you may have a problem if you run a CD burner on the same system, in which case I suppose you could disable and re-enable extensions as required.

It looks like Driver D2 v.4.4.0 is a German program primarily for managing R/W disk drives such as hard drives and MOs, not CDs.

@Franklinstein This is a huge personal reward for me. This forum has always been so helpful to me, I am glad I could return the gesture. Thanks for reporting back. Once I found the photo of the diskette it was a eureka moment for me because it confirmed that the Nakamich devices amongst many others was indeed software supported by Interware the 3rd party developer. Suddenly it struck me that perhaps the mac garden would have this and they did! I should update their page with part of the read me so that it gets googled with those drive names.

Although I spent hours on this, I see that it was well worth it even though I had a more misses that hits. Along the way an appreciation for the Nakamichi (Mountain device) grew on me, it's a really interesting piece of hardware — I don't think we'll ever see anything quite like it again. If I can afford something like that one day I will take you up on your offer but thank you for the kind gesture.

Hey @Alex,

I just bought an Interware Grand Vimage S 24-16S video card for my SE/30.  And while it does somewhat work right out of the box, it isn't fully functional, probably because I don't have the drivers for it.  I tried accessing the Google drive link you posted to see if the drivers for it might be there, but the link is dead.  By any chance, you do yo have the drivers for this card?

Thanks!

Interware Grand Vimage S 24-16S video card for my SE/30
Hello JT737

I apologize but I don't immediately see it. Yes there was a google drive link but at the time I decided to put it on archive.org instead. It should also be noted that throughout this thread the focus was on interfere drivers for an optical drive but if you go here, https://web.archive.org/web/19961228225700/http://www.iijnet.or.jp/Interware/products.html there might be something.

If you don't find what you are looking for create a new post with a driver request for your card, I will jump in and see what I can do.

Also, I apologize for the late reply.

In the meantime I found a Japanese PDF, https://www.artmix.com/pdffiles/granVim_manuN.pdf

Also, here is thee Google Drive link, I don't know what killed it, below the link is the listing for the interware.co.jp_IA.zip 3.1 MB file.

The newest item is Interware2_IA. I didn't have time to find anything but because it's a 9MB file, download it and see if something is there that fits your needs.

Kind regards

Thanks Alex!  I just downloaded the files, and I will try tonight to see if they work or not.  I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey @Alex, I downloaded the files and was able to get them onto my SE/30.  The good news is that I can expand the ZIP file itself.  However, when I go to expand an individual file I keep getting a "cannot extract this file/it is corrupt" type error.  Any ideas?

The good news is that I think that the driver I am looking for is in this; " GrandVimage_v1.3.1b.sit "  looks promising!

Hello again

The hqx files appears damaged but the .sit file that I attached should work. If you have discord here is an invite for the Mac Yak. You can see the results of the same file I sent being decompressed by someone in the software MacYak channel. Maybe you want to join? It's a great place to discuss all these things. Of course, not to sway you from this forum which is amazing.

https://discord.gg/zHTp9f

This one is for the Macintosh Garden Discord. https://discord.gg/yGRKPw

Oops, sorry the person who decompressed it was on the Macintosh Garden discord.

Anyway, I hope this helps.
