Ink cartridges, or Stylewriter 2200 shooting blanks

Hi all.

I recently found a beautiful near-mint Color Stylewriter 2200. It's got an ink cartridge in it, but I'm guessing it hasn't been used for several years.

I hooked it up to my Quadra and installed the software and attempted to print out some text. It seems to be working, the paper gets sucked in and rolled out and it makes a lovely little racket, but there's no ink on the paper.

I tried removing the ink cartridge and the little thingymajig it sits in and cleaning them gently with no result. I did get ink on my fingers though, so it's definitely not completely dried out.

Is there anything else that might need cleaning, should I get a new ink cartridge, or should I just give up and throw the whole thing away and stick to my Personal Laserwriter?

Help appreciated.

Hi! I have 6 original boxes "brand new" for 2200 in each there is 3 ink tanks, cyan, magenta and yellow, just pay for shipping and they are yours ...

Would you be willing to split that into two lots, or send them to me if the first guy doesn't want them? I recently acquired a Color StyleWriter 2200 in the box, and need at least one cartridge to play around with.

The cartridges are standard Canon somthing or other, so they can't be that hard to find. I'm wondering if they're the issue, though.

You will need to clean the printhead, which is in the printer rather than on the cartridge. A bucketload of ink will not go through a clogged printhead.

Was afraid someone would say that.

Does anyone have a link to instructions for doing that? I assume it means taking the thing apart, to some extent.

I'm in a similar position too. Have a SW 1500 that feeds paper and appears to print fine, but the page comes out blank. I'm pretty sure the ink is either empty or dried up though. So I'm thinking about trying a cartridge to see if the printer itself is working ok. Is there much work involved in cleaning the print head?

Any chance you might have any ink cartridges for my 1500, slomacuser?

I have used rubbing alcohol through a drinking straw used as a pipette to good effect. You just centre the printhead, remove power, remove the print cartridge, and apply the alcohol. No doubt other substances would do the trick. I read somewhere of the use of vinegar, but have not tried that myself, as I reckon that something that evaporates is ideal for the purpose.

Blowing through the straw also has a good effect in conjunction with application of a solvent.

It is simply done.
