iisi nubus weirdness

Can anyone tell me what’s going on here?

iisi with co processor nubus adaptor, the nubus card is a radius gs but it’s around 15mm short of the aperture in the case. Are some cards shorter or is it the nubus adaptor?

thanks

You’re missing the metal bracket that would hold the adapter and actual Nubus card in place.
That wouldn’t get it any closer to the slot in the back, but the bracket would fill the gap that’s there now.

Riiiight I see, thanks Phipli. I have a very faint recollection of this. Perhaps there’s a failed nubus adaptor and bracket out there. 🙄

Ah, the recessed ports, aka "how to get your VGA adaptor thingy completely wedged in a slot".

No, I'm not bitter about this particular design decision, why?

Oh yeah, it was definitely a memorable moment when we were trying to get an 8100 working in vain and the bloody VGA adapter kept getting stuck, with us both getting angrier and less hopeful of success each time it happened. Good times.

@joshc @cheesestraws
Is... this still an issue? I can post you a solution to all of your problems, some of... one of your problems.

Setting fire to the 8100 is one potential solution.
:'(

Better solution might be to mod it into a IIci case, it should fit with a bit of work. Same board style (650 and 800 are the same board in both case styles).

Power connector, swapping in straight i/o connectors, modding the back... perhaps putting in a PDS terminator and using Nubus video...

It would make an amazing IIci cased machine :) especially with a G3 upgrade.

I was about to say, 'do you mean a flamethrower?'.

At the moment, the whole machine isn't working because the LB is misbehaving. If I can get it working again I might take you up on this.

I'm curious as to which problem you mean, though...

(Sorry @timoog, didn't mean to hijack your thread)

I was just going to send you a little 15pin dsub extension. Like the following, but without the colour switchover :) it would help with the VGA adapter inside the computer problem it sounded like you were having.

So much hatred towards my beloved 8100. Wonderful machines! It's weird I just stumbled across one of these adapters in my stuff I was going to throw it on the bay then I wake up and read this thread about them. Some weird stuff going on here. lol

Don't worry, I appreciate my 8100 :)

If you mean an adapter like the one I just made, thats interesting. It isn't a "thing", I just thought it would help them and had the bits on hand. The previous one I made was to switch blue and green in an attempt to "correct" an incorrectly wired cable from another manufacturer.

I've kept it because it is funny :

No I was talking about the other adapter:

But I really like your adapter too I would throw a few bucks at one of those if it was readily available.

The little extenders will cost less to buy the bits for than post from here. They're not hard to make. If you have a vise it is the easiest way to assemble them. Might be helpful for @timoog too.

Get some male and some female 15 pin dsubs (two orders) from here or a similar listing, or Aliexpress :

Then grab a short length of 1.27mm pitch ribbon cable.
The red stripe on the ribbon cable goes on the pin 1 side, it doesn't matter if the cable goes up or down out of the connector as long as it is the same on both.
