I had an iBook G3 once. It had that GPU issue and I think I reflowed it for too long. The GPU became permanently damaged (by slowly getting less usable to the state of me being lucky if the display backlight were to come on) so I ended up selling it.
Maybe not from Apple, but you can get suitable drives >200 gigabytes from Western Digital. Kind of a fuss to disassemble an iBook, so may as well do that and maybe upgrade to a Superdrive at the same time.
