I got so lucky! 2011 MacBook Pro

Someone fairly recently gave me a MacBook Pro 2011 15 inch with what was thought to be the dreaded GPU failure.  I helped them pull the hard drive, and they took it to get data off of it.  I took it home, and with a little testing determined that there was nothing wrong with it and it just needed a clean install.  I suspect that it had never had that happen.  I informed the person that there was nothing wrong with it, but they had already got a new laptop, so I got to keep it.  For the price of an SSD and the upgrade from 4 to 6GBs of memory.  I have a very good laptop running High Sierra!

I still can't believe that someone gave me a free, working, 500 dollar laptop!!!

It is now my daily driver and I am very happy with it.  In fact, I am writing this post from it.  The only thing I will need to do at some point is replace the battery because it is getting a bit old.  It lasts about an hour and a half now.

Congratulations! The 2011 MacBook Pro’s are still very usable machines. I’ve had my late 2011 13” since new and still love it! When it started getting sluggish I put an SSD in it and now it runs better than it ever has!

Yes, and the 2009's are pretty good too, though they are beginning to show their age a bit (I used a 15" 2009 from early 2010 through mid 2015, and while it kept up really nicely, it was starting to chug a bit while browsing the internet).
