So I downloaded your minimal 7.5.5 disk image and used BalenaEtcher to install it onto My SD card

do you have a full version of 7.5.5, I would love a 4GB image as well. Thanks again
For now you can do the full install yourself if you want using Basilisk II

https://www.savagetaylor.com/2018/09/02/setting-up-your-vintage-classic-68k-macintosh-installing-the-full-version-of-system-7-5-5-or-6-0-8/

I'm debating updating my images to the full versions found on Apple's Legacy Software Recovery CD https://archive.org/details/AppleLegacyRecoveryOct1999, e.g:

  • System 3.2: 1986/06, System 3.2 / Finder 5.3 / System Software 1.1, on a 32MB volume file for use with the FloppyEMU (called System 1.0 on the CD)
  • System 4.1: 1987/04, System 4.1 / Finder 5.5 / System Software 2.0.1, on ~2GB volume file and 100MB, 1GB, 2GB drive files
  • System 5.1: on ~2GB volume file and 100MB, 1GB, 2GB drive files
  • System 6.0.8: on ~2GB volume file and 100MB, 1GB, 2GB drive files
  • System 7.0.1: on ~2GB volume file and 100MB, 1GB, 2GB drive files
  • System 7.1: on ~2GB volume file and 100MB, 1GB, 2GB drive files
  • System 7.5: on ~2GB volume file and 100MB, 1GB, 2GB drive files
  • System 7.6.1: on ~2GB volume file and 100MB, 1GB, 2GB drive files.... need to experiment with Drive Setup 1.5 vs. Drive Setup 1.7.3 vs HD SC Setup 7.3.5 for the initialization (I will be adding the patched versions of Drive setup to my latest images)
  • System 8.1 unpatched, and patched (to support 68030) if I can get my LC III working to test https://web.archive.org/web/20160828025036/http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/os8_68030.html

For now you can also use Basilisk II to mount the recovery CD as a drive, and use the same approach I show for doing the full install of 7.5.5 to do a full install of 7.6.1 or 8.1 from the CD.

E.g. setup Basilisk II with 3 drives: my bootable 7.5.5 image, the recovery CD, and a copy of my bootable 7.5.5 image that you plan to install System 7.6.1 and/or System 8.1 on to.

For the 4GB image, if you won't need backwards compatibility with anything running below System 7.5.3 I can make a single volume image of 4GB.

Multi-volume drive images are harder to work with and most emulators will butcher them if you try (still doing emulator tests to see which ones can or can't working with drive images).

The workaround is using something like DD to breakup a drive image in to volume images, but to do that you need to know the exact sizes of all your volumes.

I describe how I do that for my SCSI2SD card here: https://www.savagetaylor.com/2019/12/19/how-ive-setup-the-scsi2sd-that-i-use-in-my-lc-475/

The same approach would work for your CF card.

I will download Basilisk II and install 8.1 that way, as for the CF card I won't need backwards Compatibility so a single volume image will be fine.

I managed to install the full version of 7.5.3 and was happy enough with how it runs so I left it at that. Very happy with how this turned out, thanks to everyone who helped out
