Hi, I have been restoring a Macintosh SE running System 7.0.1 that I found with a Mobius 030 Accelerator. One ram module was bad on the MacSE motherboard when I got it and thus did not boot, but I replaced it and it's running and detecting the accelerator card but it does have a one issue.
Question No.1 - Booting Issue - Is there a way to change Startup Device order?
When I turn on the SE, it gives me a Question Mark Disc image but if I push the Reset/Interrupt Switch it boots fine into the Hard Drive and the computer runs without issues. The drive is 20MB and has 3 partitions. From what I can tell, First partition is the startup disk but there's also a system folder on the second partition. I tried moving the system folder from the 2nd partition to another folder to see if that was confusing the SE but that made no difference. I am not sure if it's trying to boot from a different source (Floppy Drive), I don't know where to access the order of booting devices if that's the case (I'm still new to anything bellow OS9). I did select partition One from Control Panels/Startup Disk a bunch of times but that made no difference. Did I miss something?
Question No. 2 - Archiving an App - Is there a way to view hidden files on System 7?
There is a software/App called Performer (version 3.61) by Mark of the Unicorn (MOTU) dated 1990 that I would love to archive as I don't see this version archived anywhere. There are versions of "Digital Performer" on Macintosh Garden but the earliest there date to 1996 and one version of "Performer" from 1986. The question is (and it's a total noob one), is there a way to view hidden files on System 7 like there is on newer OS? I ask because if I use an app called FastFind to search Performer on the SE, I do see a file called "Performer 3.61Key-1" (see screenshot) that is not viewable if I go to the folder location. If I try to open it from FastFind it opens as text and it's just computer jargon. I wonder if this is some kind of serial number. I did read this app required a diskette to authorize the had drive so not sure if accessing this file would give someone a way to crack it.
I have made a copy of the entire contents of the SE by just dragging it to a Zip Disc.
Thanks!
