Help installing Mac OS 8.1 on my Mac SE/30

Yes, you must install Mac OS 8.0 first and then upgrade to Mac OS 8.1. Also if you are using a SCSI hard drive to install to you must use "Drive Setup" from the Mac OS 8.1 CD.iso ( Not Apple HD Setup ) to format the drive and don't let the installer update the Disk Drivers when installing Mac OS. I'm not sure about when installing to BlueSCSI.

That's actually what I was doing wrong, I was trying to go straight to an 8.1 install,
instead of installing 8.0 first. Today I installed the internal blue scuzzy and was able
to successfully create a clean install of 8.0. Tomorrow I will try to update it to 8.1.

8.0 at least is not that bad as far as usability. I've been playing around with it tonight,
And I could indeed use it. I don't know if 8.1 is a huge difference in speed though I'll
just have to. create an install and see what happens.

Does anyone know what version of the Asante´ MacCon installer is needed for 8.0/8.1?

You must be a resilient individual to consider 8.0 "is not that bad". I was just using 8.1 yesterday on the IIci and ... no way I could put up with that on a daily basis.

You shouldn't need any driver. Most MacCons are picked up by System 7 and up's Installers because most of them use National Semiconductor DP839xx series chips.
