The system that came with it was borked, so that was the source of the issue. It is amazing how long these macs last.

Cool - I really like Q800s. Fast '040, compatible with A/UX, high RAM ceiling. Case isn't so easy to get into, but not nearly as bad as folks say.

Yep. Whenever a Mac has an issue, it is usually down to a corrupted system folder or corrupted program data. The hardware almost always holds up a lot better than a same era PC.
