Having trouble with A/UX on a IIfx

So I've had success with A/UX on all my other machines that can run it except this IIfx.  All I get out of it is a gray screen after it bootstraps, forcing me to reboot.  This happens both when I use the installation floppy coupled with a SCSI2SD with the CD-ROM on it (which is how I installed it on all the other machines), as well as by booting it off an installation on a hard drive which has successfully booted A/UX on my IIci, IIcx, IIsi, SE/30, and Q950.  The IIfx has 68MB of RAM and a "Toby" graphics card.  Any ideas?

Update:  Turns out it's caused by the combination of the ROMinator II I had installed (to avoid the memtest and give me a boot disk) and the IIfx.  The ROMinator II worked with my IIcx running A/UX so I didn't think to try without it.  Swapping in the original ROM made it boot up fine.

Anyone know why this would be an issue?

A/UX requires ROM patches in order to work. They are specific to the ROMs installed in the machine.

If you want to fix this, you would need to re-implement A/UX Startup so that it will load the correct ROM from the disk, then apply the patches.

I suspected it was something like that, but then the question still stands of why it worked in the IIcx...
