Freecycle Performa 630

Saw an advert for a non-specific Apple Mac the other day on my local Freecycle and after a few enquiries I found out it was a Performa 630 located very near to where I live. I went and picked it up and was pleasantly surprised.

The machine is in perfect condition and has obviously been very well cared for. It came with a 15" Multiple-Scan display, Colour StyleWriter 1500 and a box of manuals including the original receipt and AppleCare documentation. Apparently the machine cost £1330 with the monitor when it was bought on 13th July 1995 from Scotsys in Edinburgh.

Specs are 8MB RAM, 1GB hard drive, 33MHz 68LC040, CD ROM and it is installed with System 7.5. Seems to be in pretty much original condition and the System software looks like it was recently re-installed.

A nice machine to get for free and a good one to tinker with. I like the fact that it is similar to the LC475 but slightly faster and more expandable. I'll probably do some experimentation with video-in cards and almost certainly will add more RAM.

Has certainly filled a gap in the ever-growing collection! ;)

Nice find! It should respond very well to a couple of upgrades. To find one with all the disks and info. is very nice too!
