It’s a 9500 with a dodgy power supply. At least I think it’s the power supply, I’m not 100% sure.

Oh ouch yeah that must be a pain.. fortunately this house is only 10 years old and doesn’t have any issues like that (yet!). Are you planning to have a room for it? My wife ain’t happy when my stuff spreads outside of the loft/garage or my study.

It would be nice to have a dedicated space, for both of us. I'm constantly stealing tables, floors etc for projects.

Yeah.. it’s good to have it in a dedicated location. Especially with anything with a CRT in it…
ATX PSU conversion time
That was my thoughts, although I’m not 100% on it being that yet. Tbh when I bought the machine I only bought it for the CD bezel for my Q800 but the whole machine ended up being in what seems to be a salvageable state so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How cold does it get in your garage and how are you heating it? We just converted our garage into a room because it was so cold and unusable for anything else before. When I moved in a year ago, I was storing all my Macs there but they started to get damp/condensation in them over winter so I moved them into the main part of the house and eventually into the loft (as we now know, that didn't turn out well...).

I do have a heater in there, but it’s seldom used. At the back wall there’s the boiler for the house which does help warm the garage, and over to the other side is my server rack which contributes more than my fair share towards climate change.

The garage is also pretty well ventilated so damp hasn’t been an issue.

Interesting. I guess it being a much newer build helps. It’s great you’ve been able to get use out of it, looks really cool. I’m still hoping to build something in the garden for this purpose so I can get soldering again.

That would be amazing! If you do you’ll need to create a thread detailing the build, I love seeing that kinda thing!

Most likely it would be me paying someone to assemble a kit or something - I definitely won't have time to do the build myself but yeah, happy to post some photos if it happens.

Either way it’d be fun to see! I do kinda have designs on building a long extension at the back of my house that would basically triple the space I have in the garage, but that’s many years off.

It is optical, but unfortunately only single button!

IMO The best mouse that matches with the iMac G4 is the Apple Mighty Mouse.. it has the same shape as the original teardrop one it shipped with but is two button and has the scroll nipple. They get gummed up from use but are actually fairly easy to take apart to clean.

Aw damn. Got a 5500 off eBay for a reasonable price. Alas the packaging wasn’t sufficient (it wasn’t awful but coulda been better) and it’s arrived like this

I can hear a lot of what sounds like glass inside it too so I suspect the neck of the CRT has cracked. I can probably salvage a couple of bits from it but alas I think the rest of it has had it :(

At least the seller has been very quick to offer collection and refund so that’s always something nice!

Okay, thanks.

Yeah, I use my Mighty Mouse as well. Was hoping to find something else out there potentially usable on others from the plastics/acrylic era like G3 / G4 towers and CRT iMacs.

New sealed in box copy of Star Trek 25th Anniversary which I’m chuffed with!

I’d love to get the CD version with the original cast voices.. and ideally a copy of Judgement Rites too. I had these in the 90s.. I was so foolish to bin them!

I also have the floppy version. I didn't know there was a CD version with original cast voices. That's neat.

Another wee pickup from last weekend. B&W G3 with matching display, keyboard and mouse, and a whole load of accessories including 2 of the Gravis GamePad Pro’s which work beautifully with CVGS PlayStation emulator!

I shall furnish you with the photos when I refurbish the machine! In the mean time here’s some of the other bits I picked up with it. The game pads, some copied PS games, and a colour onescanner!
