Craigslist score!

I’ve been looking for a period correct Apple monitor to pair with my Performa 475. I’ve got the 12” color monitor that matches the LC/pizzabox Macs, but 512x384 resolution is too cramped for the 475, plus that’s for my LC III+. eBay searches high and low returned monitors either too far, or too expensive, or broken. I really didn’t want to ship a monitor after seeing the Multiple Scan 15 that bwicklund purchased that arrived in pieces.
I decided to check my local Craigslist, and lo and behold someone was selling a Performa 6400/180 tower, 14” Macintosh Color Display, Apple Extended Keyboard II, and mouse, all for $85!! I jumped on it, emailed the seller, and we met at a local police station today to do the deal. They even threw in a Color Stylewriter 1500! I’m absolutely stoked!
Picture attached. I’m gonna open it up and clean it up before trying to boot it. Don’t mind my messy kitchen table in the pic 🤣

6400 works as well, but both the floppy and the CD-ROM aren’t working. The CD drive opens the tray but doesn’t do anything when a disc is inserted. Luckily I have my external AppleCD 600e. Happy days!

That 14" Trinitron is a great monitor. I paid~$400 for mine back in the day. I think I still have it around somewhere.

Yeah, I think my original example was $369.95 at Computer City. Was their display model, connected to a Q605. Used it with both of my first two IIsi machines, then the IIci that replaced the second one, and my original C650. Mine had a couple dead pixels. Probably should've left it as is, instead of trying to get it repaired. Color never was right and the screen geometry never was correct after the tube was replaced with a new one. Thinking the tube that Sony sent to the repair shop may've been defective. In 2000, a friend of the family gave me a Sony CPD-1304S, which replaced it. Wound up relegating the original M1212 to backup status. Used it with the third IIsi, which received an upgrade to 65MB of RAM, and Mac OS 8.1 (used the old Born Again patch to do this) on the 250MB drive I'd pulled from my 7100/80.

The monitor shown in my avatar was my second M1212, which came as part of the conquest I had back in 2012. I don't remember exactly what happened with that monitor. May've gone to RE-PC.

Yeah I’m sure stoked I got it for such a great price. $85 for a complete system with printer is unheard of these days. People on eBay seem to think uncapped LC’s are worth $150-200 😂😂 Image quality looks good too. Still nice and bright, crisp text. I know I could find a non-Apple CRT monitor to use with my old Macs pretty easily but I prefer to have matching monitors with my machines. I need to find monitors for my 7500 and the 6400 now.

The Multiple Scan 17 might be nice on the 7500... For the 6400, since it's a minitower, you could maybe do another 17", or see if there's a TPD option that'll work with it. Like the original Multiple Scan 20. 20" screen.

You need a VidCard to do more than 16" resolution on the 6400/6360. Dunno if the path is clear to do it in the 6400, but I tucked a full length Radius Vidcard up into the empty cubic under the CD in the refurb 6360, that ran my Radius TPDs very nicely on a shoestring budget in the day.

That's a very fine deal!

I remember when I got my first SE/30: It was $19.50 for a complete system with keyboard, mouse, ImageWriter II and a box of software.

Nowadays $19.50 will maybe get the box of software.

You got very lucky!!

I upgraded the Rage 128 that came with my B&W G3 years ago to a Radeon I believe. I can put the Rage back in the G3 and use the Radeon. Gotta dig the B&W out of the crawlspace though.

@djhaloeight I may upgrade my G3 to a Radeon 7000, so if you want, I could probably send you my Radeon card for your G3. That way, both the 6360 and the G3 would be using the same card.

That would be nice…I got some work to do on the G3 though. I dug it out of the crawlspace today and boy it’s in worse shape than I remember. It’s missing a video card, hard drives, optical drive, although I found what I believe to be the OEM Apple DVD drive near it. Also missing the front cover plate that pops down when you open the drive. Battery was a Maxell (!) that hasn’t leaked. Pulled it out and tossed it. It had been in a storage unit for years before we brought it back home so I have no idea where the video cards are. I’ll have to do some more digging. My brother said the power supply is toast on it too.

Ah, fun.

I have a 30GB drive from a G4 DA that I owned a few years back that I'd be willing to donate to the cause. The bezels do pop up from time to time on the 'bay, along with the power supplies, etc...

Power supply seems to be ok. I plugged it in and hit the button and it chimes fine. Power supply fans spin up etc. It’s missing the carrier for the optical drive/zip too though. Pains me to see it like that. We take things for granted till years later. I should’ve kept better care of it since we got it new in ‘99.

Appreciate that. I already grabbed a 7200rpm 20GB drive off eBay though. Got a lead on
the front panel too, but I still have to do some looking in the crawlspace. There’s a buttload of boxes down there 🤣

Oh man, this is a great story - congrats!

I know it's not on most "All Time Greatest Macs" lists, but I have such a personal affection for the Performa 6400/180. My closest childhood friend's parents bought one when we were in 6th grade together, and sleepover nights at his place became all-night Descent marathons on that machine. Congrats again on a great haul for a fantastic price - glad to see cool hardware ending up with folks who will appreciate it!

Definitely! Our first Mac at home was a Performa 6300CD. Hobbled machine, but we loved it nonetheless. I lusted after the 6360/6400/6500 machines when they came out though. Glad to have one in my collection.
