Compact Mac, analog rivets.

I recently turned on my SE/30, and as it was about to finish booting, I turned down the brightness, went too far and went all black, when I turned it back up, I saw a vertical line……

Well, I opened it up and went through the analog board, and fluxed, flowed, and filled all the joints…

Its all good again…..

Than I decided to do my 512kE, which has a "slap it on the side" problem…

Thats good again too…

But the 512 didn't have the plastic rivets. The isolation sheet was held on by double stick foam tape..

All the holes are there, but no rivets.

Where can I get those plastic rivets? I don't want foam tape.

Has anyone else seen this?

S/N says 46w "86.

The SE was the first to use the rivets. All Macs before that used tape. You probably won't be able to find rivets to replace them. Sorry.

Thanks for that info.

I'm thinking of robbing 1 from all my other compacts to get the job done.

But, I AM ALMOST 100% SURE, that I can find someone that still makes them, or has a NOS supply of them.

Not really, i have seen a lot of Plus using those as well.

I am using double side tape on early ones (the ones without holes) and yes, using some from others Compacts is fine also.

They are called nylon snap rivets.  Just google that term, and you will find a plethora of them.  I ordered a few some time back, but can't find my order so I can't remember what size.  Measure the hole diameter, and board thickness, and order appropriately.

Thank you, for your help & knowledge.

If you do find that info (size & dia.), please let all of us know.

OK…. But my 512kE (46w 86) has the 5 holes for them…..

Both on the board & insulation sheet.

I do not want to put tape back on it….

It was hard enough for me to get it off, so that I could solder the joints.

that tape is ….  Sssoooo sloppy…..

Try your local hardware store, not Home Deoot or Lowe's but a real hardware store. If you have a Fastenal near by good chance they have them. They are in the pricey side, but they sell pretty much everything. Heck one time I even bought a truck from them.
