Oh, I completely neglected to mention: the mount is mostly meant for the Noctua 40mm NF-A4x10 FLX and the rubber "pop-rivet" rubber mount solution they come with. (sorry I don't know the proper name off-hand)
There were some spots of hot glue left (I originally wanted this for a Q700) which didn't do too much. I didn't have much issue with the heatsink staying in place, really. Not like I'm taking the thing on a Jeep trail...
I was asking because even using caliper I always screw something out
The tolerance for the heavier heatsink clip is ...tight. I actually don't like how much pressure it puts on it, to be honest.
Sometimes I get lucky and it fits first time around. Most times, not so much... I think I did 6 or 7 versions of the Quadra 700 foot. Probably 4 revisions of a simple HDD bracket. My 3D printer is out of commission at the moment, so I can't really do my normal round of test fits : / otherwise I'd work up a replacement. Maybe I'll work up the motivation to get it back together tomorrow.
You should have seen how many revsions it took me to design a simple case for a wombat adb <-> usb adapter.
Crazy, but I went through the
same thing with mine before I sold it. I wasn't happy with the final result, but it was
something other than cardboard : P
I was examining also looking at using
this.
I would also have a look at
Wakefield-Vette's catalog for IC cooling. They have 1:1 matches for PPC cooling, which I purchased for my 4400/StarMax machines. There might be something in there that could work for the 040 PGA dimensions. I haven't looked too hard myself. Outlets like Mouser and DigiKey are WV resellers.
