Cannot create desktop printer/other weird issues

I need some input on a weird issue that I am having that seems to be somehow related to OS 9.2.2.

I have a LaserWriter 12/640PS. It is connected to my network via ethernet and has an IP address of 192.168.70.10. All the computers on my network can see it, and I can print to it from Windows, Mac OS 7.5.5 and Mac OS 10.4. However, I have two G3's that are both running 9.2.2, which is where I am running into a problem.

Both G3's see the printer in the Chooser under LaserWriter 8. I can click the Create button and it goes through creating a desktop printer like normal but when that finishes, I have no desktop printer icon.

If I open an application and attempt to print, the printer DOES show up in the print menu, but after hitting OK it will sit for a minute and then I get an error message saying "The file (file name) will be moved to the Trash because no desktop printer exists for this spool file."

I have tried several different versions of the LaserWriter 8 software with not much luck... any ideas?
