Bus error on boot

Hoping someone can help me with this.

I have a Power Mac G3 Blue & White and every time it boots, it says there was a bus error and that I should restart with the shift key down. If I restart with the shift key down to disable extensions, it says Finder has quit unexpectedly once it boots but the desktop works fine.

The weird thing is that it was working fine not too long ago and I don’t remember installing any software or changing anything before the problem started.

Any clues for fixing this? I thought originally it was a sketchy PCI card but the problem persists after removing it.

Rule out simple things first. Reseat drive cables and RAM. Also try with no drives connected and see what you get as well (see if it will boot from a CD only with no drives connected).

Seems like it was a software issue. I upgraded it to 9.2.1 which seemed to install correctly, but still gave me the same bus error on boot.

Then I wiped the drive and installed 9.2.1 fresh and now it works!
