Beige G3 in a PC case

I found an old article on the Internet about putting a Beige G3 into a PC case. I do not want to remove the on-board video connector, and I am looking for a faceplate for the floppy drive. Also, any ideas on what kind of case to use? I want to do this because I am buying a beige g3 from Ebay but its case is in rather sorry shape. Also, I want to load it with SCSI devices. I mean load it. I have a PowerDomain 29160 and want to put 4 72GB Drives in there, plus a Nakamichi 5 disc changer and a Slot Loading DVD ROM and a Yamaha CD-RW, ZIP and Jazz Drive. I have found a good power supply to use, but finding a case is proving difficult.

Guessing you're aware, but make sure you have the power supply jumper on the logic board set correctly for the power supply pinout you're using.

Yes. That jumper is what originally made me aware of the easy case conversion. I might not do this project though if I cannot find a Wings or Bordeaux personality card.

You absolutly do not need to remove the onboard video connector. Just cut the case between the back bezel and the first PCI slot, OR move upwards the logic board and cut there.

Check my build here :

Most ATX or with some work big µATX cases will do fine. The problem today is finding cases with front bays. 4 internal Drives is easy to find.
For that I found easier to put the optical drives in an external enclosure, although they are becoming
How bad is the original case ?

P.S. : Beiges do work without personality card, there is just no sound. Mine was broken. Where are you located ? That could help people with spare personality cards.

I can confirm, with a little bit of dremel work on the back, the G3 does fit inside a IIci case, with the personality card and all. Just need to cut the ports area.

Depends on the OS version. Under 9.2.2, it bombs out early in the extensions loading sequence if the personality card is not installed.

Good to know, I'm running 8.1 on this one !
This is just anecdotal but I think it’s the Apple Audio Extension under OS 9.x looking for the sound chip and failing in an ungracious way. OS X doesn’t have a problem booting and running without the card, nor does 8.1; not sure about 8.6.
