Barn score.. not mac

Barn is right... mouse poo ick.

got a NeXT Station with megapixel display, Sun SPARCstation 5 with monitor, BeBox, and a DEC Multia. along with a pile of 'stuff'

Had to toss a lot of stuff that was too icky, think a cat peed on some of it too :-x

any how, the NeXT turns on(keyboard need replacement, very icky, stuck 'f' key. worked enough to hit the power button to turn it on though) but I get a SCSI error and I don't think the floppy drive works. It has the CD-ROM, but I have no caddys and it came with a copy of openstep/mach 4.2 still shrink wrapped though.

Sun has a busted HDD (literally, someone smashed the SCA connector). I have other SCSI drives but no 80 pin SCA ones.

the DEC was rusty, had to pry the case apart to open it. It turned on but the keyboard port doesn't work so it goes into serial terminal mode. HDD is ok, 2.5" but it looks like an IDE drive wish it was SCSI. :p Scavenged the RAM, processor and HDD out of it. Too bad, Always wanted to play with an Alpha machine, and this one is nice and small too(one of my collecting requirements)

BeBox looks good, very sun yellowed plastic on the front, no drive in it, and I haven't tested it out yet... I think it'll work though. came with the original box too.

changed my mind on the multia, turns out its a top end model(VX42) with the 233MHz Alpha. it's running SRM firmware. disassembled it, sanded it and painted the metal case pink ) In the pile of junk there's a copy of redhat 5.1 for Alpha...

BeBox boots to firmware, I don't have a copy of BeOS for it, but it's nice I can use an IDE drive though.

the Sun monitor is toast need some sort of adaptor for it to use a regular VGA monitor.

NIGHT STALKER
The 13W3 (?) Cable for Sun is slightly different than the Mac's, but Analog RGB is Analog RGB, with a few different timing varieties thrown in for fun. :approve:

BTW, I've got three SPARCstation 5 PartsBoxen if you, or anyone else, have need of parts in exchange for a trinket in trade plus shipping, or even just the shipping cost. [;)] ]'>

p.s. got a pic of the Toasted CRT? If its plastics are good and it has that old-school  air about it, I might be interested in an unwieldly, but light trade item! [}:)] ]'>

yeah 13w3 sounds right... IIRC there are adapters for that, yes? I'll have to get one at some point and it turns out there was an 80 pin SCA drive in the pile, kinda loud, who knows what size it is... find out once I get around to getting an adaptor.

Plastics are fine on the monitor except the foot, needs major retr0brite action. just a basic 17" stuck in permanent energy saver mode, don't think it's worth shipping. ANd I still have a large boxen of stuff waiting to ship to you already.

But still, a NeXT and an even more rare BeBox in a single barn score? Throw in the old Dec and the Sparc and its a pretty incredible single haul.

not to mention the Be was in it's original box. Stuck a 320GB IDE drive in there, now I just need IDE ribbon cable and a copy of the BeOS... Oh and a PC keyboard and mouse... Ethernet card would be handy too, it's got a thinnet ISA card from 1988 in there(I have only one T with terminator, have to look and see if I have any others)... It did come with a 4port Ethernet hub with a thinnet port(and I have a 8 port one with the same) 4 port is nice and small, so if it works I'll add that to my network, so I can have at least one port in the house the ole 180 can hook up to. :p

I am having my doubts about the NeXT, damn Jobs and his need for proprietary gear... keeping the cable clutter down is nice, but that monitor is iffy at best, keyboard is hosed(I can see the rust between the keys) I'm amazed the power button works. floppy is dead.

why is it cat's piss in electronics, i hate that, that cat pee causes issues every single time.

i like cats, no cat i have ever owned has peed in any of my equipment.

but i have received many things from other people, friends and ebay, that a cat had pee'd in.

its pretty nasty.

I once walked in on my sisters cat peeing in the toilet. It had never been trained to do so, and my sister had never known it to do it. It looked at me like I had just uncovered its biggest secret. I backed out of the bathroom and closed the door slightly without breaking eye-contact. Easily the most awkward encounter with a cat I have ever had.

Male cats marking territory most likely. Some will pee on just about anything, particularly if they're not fixed at a young age. the NeXT keyboard was the only thing I saved from that bin everything else went into the garbage.

... BeBox...
:O Me want!
BeBox is operational! didn't like the big IDE drive at all. So it has an older 800MB SCSI drive in it, installing PR1 on it now I found 4.5 too, but it's not booting from that CD

errr reinstalling PR1. for whatever reason mouse didn't want to work after putting the SCSI drive inside the machine(did it first in an external enclosure) see if that persists after a restart. and I only have the mouse at the moment, still need to get a crappy old PC keyboard. why not use a PS/2 keyboard port!? it's using a PS/2 mouse port... :?:

the DEC is won't boot from the redhat CDs, starts trying than poops out with errors, wonder if something is wrong with the NeXT CD drive... or some SCSI glitchypoovoodoocrap. Otherwise I think that machine is functional, it is for sure the 233MHz and it says it has 152MB RAM. so the two unmarked SIMMS are 64MB (also has two 12MB SIMMS)

To be completely honest that doesn't surprise me...a lot of PCs from that era don't really like drives bigger than say...8GB. I have an AMD K6/266 with a board from late 1997ish, and it doesn't like drives bigger than 20GB.

added a picture to the link I posted earlier. BeBox running and online, with the Multia and NeXT CD drive on top of that attempting to load linux.
