I booted up a Ubuntu Live CD in Virtual PC. It worked just fine, though it was with a later version.

I've run linux in vmware and on virtual PC, it's okay, I mainly do it when I need two or three instances running at the same time, in the case of learning about some networking technique or another. I intend to learn how to do network authentication on Linux this way at some point.

I ran debian on Virtual PC, on a 1GHz eMac. It showed me how damned good Virtual PC was for emulating everything but graphics - and it's impressively good. Benchmarkwise, it came out around the speed of an 800MHz PIII, and handled serving danamania.com and danaquarium.com for a little while in a busy period - it didn't just benchmark as being PIII/800 speed, but served pages as quickly as a PIII/800 should, approximately.

Then with X11 on, it was as slow as a wet week :D .
