Another SE30 Risk on the way...

Excited to have a second SE30 on the way. I went ahead and got this one because -

The case looks to be in great shape.

It does not "appear" to be battery bombed. You can zoom in on the profile pics and at least see that the chassis by the battery appears to be spotless.

The video issue might be easy to fix. Hopefully just a detached neckboard or something simple on the Analog board. And I have SE's with perfect CRT's and Analog boards I could replace those with.

Good price if I can fix it. What do you think?

battery is an unknown. always a gamble with that one, but no obvious corrosion from the outside is a good sign.

display not turning on is probably UE8 or one of the others beside that one. it's right beside a capacitor and often is destroyed by the leaking electrolyte.

I actually took a gamble on an SE/30 in basically the same condition. I got lucky and just needed to replace UE8...

Yep looking forward to seeing what kind of mess we hopefully don't have. Sony power supply too.

Would a bad UE8 completely take out video altogether or just cause anomolies?

I'm gonna be optimistic and put
my money on somebody turned the brightness knob all the way down.

i think in some cases it causes corruption, and in others it just kills the video completely.

i did lose pads in the process, which might actually have been rotten.

excuse my somewhat sloppy patchwork  i'm still learnding and getting better

Hey looks good to me...interesting that the pins you have bodges on are on the opposite side of C7...if C7 was the culprit, I'd expect to see damaged pins on the other side..is that the original UE8 chip or a replacement?

yeah I had a tube of replacement ICs and figured I'd just replace it completely. I lost those pads in the process.
