Ah UPS, Killers of Classics

Is that single layer the extent of the packing material?!

If so, that's most likely NOT UPS' fault. I don't ship Macs, especially compacts, with less that 3" of padding JUST around the thing itself. Like I say, if that's the extent of the bubblewrap, that's not up to par.

People really don’t have a concept. I once sent a 6100 to someone that was actually pretty decently packed, and it still was a cracked mess. That Classic had no chance.

For the faint of heart, look away now
Ugg... sorry for your loss! If it makes you feel any better... I'm currently mid-rectification discussion with an eBay'r I purchased a CC off - he wrapped the CC in a plastic bag, placed half a dozen egg (cardboard ) carton underneath it, put some crumpled paper around it, then topped it with the other half of the egg carton... yeah... it arrived cracked!! 😠 But not as bad as yours.

Nah there was a lot more packaging, it was pretty reasonable. The box was in tatters, and had been ripped open enough that the keyboard and mouse that was in there had been lost. The seller is going to give me a refund, I hope he gets something from UPS!

Ah that sucks! I recently got a CC from someone down near Birmingham UK, but I didn’t want to ship it for exactly that reason, so as a colleague at work lived in the same town as them she went to pick it up and will bring it up to me next time they go on holiday in Scotland!

I package computers and hifi stuff into bubblewrap, then in a box, then into bubblewrap and into another box.
Can't say it's fool proof, but i haven't lost anything i sent yet and i'm a certified fool.

Double boxing is mandatory IMHO for shipping CRTs with anyone like UPS or Fedex.

For heavier items I also bubble wrap, and then box, or alternately, fit layers of cardboard strategically around the item and re-wrap that. Then a final box with enough packing material to keep things from shifting. It's not easy but I also have not lost anything outgoing... absolutely cannot say the same for incoming 😥
