A/UX drop-in image for RaSCSI? Or installation on 32bit SE/30 Help!

Hi Guys,
the last couple of days I've been trying to install the A/UX 3.0.1 onto my RaSCSI under SE/30 with a Mac-ROMinator. Unfortunately, to no avail.

Firstly:
I do not have a working floppy drive, so I tried to go around that by using Basilisk and creating disk images. Unfortunately, a disk image simply copy-pasted from the original boot floppy for AUX install gets stuck on the 'Welcome to Macintosh' screen. Now, when I replace the system folder with the one that's on the Mac-ROMinator ROM drive, it boots, but it does not auto-start the actual unix nor the installation process. When I run it manually, it drops a million errors before it even starts loading (it just displays the 'command prompt').
I noticed the original boot floppy (downloaded from MacintoshRepository) has 2 extensions on it - Hardware System Update and CD Hack. So, I copy-pasted those two files onto my fake-floppy boot disk with the system folder from Mac-ROMinator. Unfortunately, it once again gets stuck on the 'Welcome to Macintosh' screen.
In RaSCSI I have selected for the actual A/UX install ISO to mimic the Apple CD rom. This drive always shows up without issues.

Is this stuck screen perhaps because of the 32bit ROM?

Secondly:

Does some kind soul have an ready-to-go image from their RaSCSI (I've seen the one for blueSCSI but that's an IMG file, which RaSCSI doesn't recognise and which IDK how to convert to other ones without messing it up)? Or maybe faced this issue themselves and knows how to work with this?

Cheers!

I wish I had a RaSCSI that I could install this onto for you.

Would a 'dd' image in OS X from a real SCSI disk work with RaSCSI ?

Unfortunately not, RaSCSI needs a whole operating system installed on the SD card. So you can’t dd it onto there

What format are the disk images in for the RaSCSI? Is it different than that used with xxxxSCSI (insert color)/SCSI2SD?

I don’t have either of those, either, and from what I’ve seen the colorSCSI uses .hda files which can be simply a ‘dd’ image.

Is there any way for me to take a working physical SCSI disk, and image it into something that will boot on a RaSCSI?

Yes, any image .hda or .hdr will work. I can just load that as a disk into the raSCSI

I haven’t done it myself, but a ‘dd’ image file from Mac OS X should be able to just have the .hda or .hdr extension added to work. Do you agree?

If this is true, I’ll fire up my G5 with a SCSI card and ‘dd’ the A/UX installation Jaz cartridge I made for A/UX 3.0.1 and upload it for you to try. Let me know your thoughts about the process and if it sounds plausible I’ll put the time in.

I am not sure about adding the .hda extension myself. If you would find time to do that, I’d be so grateful! I’ll make sure to come back to you to let you know how it went. Is that gonna be an image of the disk itself or of the install files? Thanks!

What would you prefer? I have a Jaz disk that boots into the installer and doesn’t require the boot floppy. I just insert and it launches the installer without anything else.

Might be the best way to test because an already installed system might panic if it finds different hardware, though I’ve never validated that to be true or false.

I would also be interested in this image, having a bunch of Jaz disks and all... :)

Yeah I think this would be amazing to have for many people to be fair. It’s much easier to use that in a world where it gets more difficult to get working floppy disks and have somewhere to ‘burn’ them

I do have A/UX media, this image would must make it easier, especially combining how picky A/UX is with CDROM drives, and my Apple drives needing recapping, this just seems a lot cleaner...

When I did get it working, I was amazed at how clean and smooth it worked.

I’ll see what I can do before I leave for vacation in Florida this week. If not, it’ll have to wait until I come back.

My A/UX needs are not urgent :) Enjoy your vacation!
