98 G3 Persistent Type 10 Error

My 1998 G3 300Mhz is throwing fits. It has: 512MB RAM from Memory Masters (two 256 modules) and a 60GB Apple drive from my PB G4.

I was working with 9.2.2 when the windows vanished and I received the notice that (paraphrasing) "Finder has stopped responding. You should restart." It would then escalate to a bomb, "Sorry, a system error occurred 'Finder' error type 10"

Thinking the RAM needed to be re-seated, I opened it up to find that the processor board was not firmly seated. Ok, firmly seated it and booted it again. I began transferring files to a PCMCIA card in case I needed to reinstall the OS and it did it again but more aggressively.

Formatted the HD, even going so far as to have it write all zeros first. Reinstalled 9.1 and all was well. Ejected the CD and started Control Strip when the whole process started again. At this point the extensions haven't been touched by me; they are whatever it selected during installation.

I'm stumped. Where should I start? Is the hard drive bad? Bad RAM? If it weren't for those cheery UFOs, I might be even more disappointing.
