7500!

As stated in a previous thread, my 7300 decided to kick the bucket just as I was about to put it back into service.

I was lucky enough to find a 7500 here in Denmark, and although I probably paid a bit more than the going eBay.de/.co.uk rate (I paid 200 DKK, ~20 quid), the seller was kind enough to arrange for a friend of his to drive it from the other end of the country to where I live, and I was able to go by bus to pick it up. No shipping = no damage. It's cosmetically in great condition, and unlike my 7300 comes from a smoke-free home. The PSU sounds like it's in a lot better condition too, probably as a consequence of that.

I put in the 604e from the 7300 (167MHz) as well as the (80MB) RAM and HD, and it works very nicely, with 8.6 as well as BeOS. A mate in England will be sending me a G3 upgrade and hopefully some more RAM. That should make it really fly.

I'll be using it mainly for writing (working on my last big paper for my Bachelor's degree), and probably do some remote development on a UNIX box. The dream situation would be to run Nisus in Shapeshifter under BeOS and use either BeOS's SerialConnect or SSH to work with NetBSD on my SGI Indy or Sun Sparcstation 20. Might even try to get an X server running under BeOS/PPC.

Right now I'm going to see what kind of quality the video input offers - if it's good enough to hook up my Amiga to, I'll be a very happy man.

Woohoo! The video input works great for connecting an Amiga running in PAL mode via a composite cable. It seems completely responsive, just like it was a proper monitor. I'd test it with a game of Speedball II if I didn't have to go to bed...
