7300/200 doesn't properly sleep? +ROM SIMM?

I have a working maxed out 512mb of ram, 4mb vram 7300/200 PowerPC.

Everything works fine but when I put the computer on sleep, the PSU fan doesn't shut off and the HardDrive doesn't stop spinning.

However the fresh install of OS 8.6 I put on there comes out of sleep thinking everything is fine.

This isn't the end of the world but I wish I knew what was wrong.

Second part of my question is about whether or not I should use this "Power Computing 5000-120-01" ROM SIMM in this computer or not? My guess is no?

The computer boots fine without it or with it. Both the motherboard and the ROM SIMM are from 1995 so idk what to think.

Can confirm, my Beige G3 Minitower from ~1997/1998 sleeps the same way, with the PSU fan running, in both 9.2.2 and 10.4.11. I think you are okay there.

I used to have a PM G4 AGP graphics that did sleep more like a modern Mac (fans shut off, power light breaths, etc). I’m guessing it either started with the G4s, or the new world roms in the B&W G3 and onwards.

As to your ROM SIMM question, no idea.

On another note, I wonder how much longer all those capacitors from 1995 will last before they start leaking. 1993 era Mac TV and Color Classic boards are starting to have leaky caps. I’d recommend peaking in on them every six months or so to watch for them. I’d imagine they have another 2 years left.

The caps still look very good. I've owned this computer all my life so have taken care of it. The board is in almost perfect condition.

Also thanks for the sleep confirmation everyone. Been so used to modern sleep on PCs I guess I forgot.

IIRC anything before the PowerMac G3 Blue and White didn't actually go into full sleep.  However my HD will spin down when in sleep on my 7200 and Beige G3.
