6100 Sonnet sticker location.

I'm undecided where to place the newly arrived case sticker to reflect the G3 card that's installed!

I feel like I've seen machines with 6's sticker placement before.  That "feels" correct to me because it matches the left justification of the "PowerPC" text.

Although now I think on it, #2 might be more visible, depending on your keyboard and placement, with the Pizza Box form factor anyway.

Keep it for now, though of I ever get more Sonnet hardware, I might come knocking.

With much deliberation, I decided to go with none of the choices (technically) and take jessenator's suggestion by lining it up with the CD-ROM drive, to the left.

Getting very lucky on eBay is probably your best bet. That's how I got mine, with help from a kind Aussie user here.

Heh. I wouldn't mind one myself. My Power Mac 6100/66 has a Sonnet G3 250 MHz installed (not quite as fancy, but still much faster than stock).

Since all the Sonnet owners seem to be looking in on this thread, does anyone know the lowest OS (it says 8.5 on Everymac for this card) that can be loaded on a 6116 with a Sonnet G3 400/1M.  Is it possible to use , say 8.1 or maybe even 7.5.3?  I have a couple of nice 9.2 machines already, so I would prefer to have something a little lower if possible.

More in line with the topic, mine came with everything in the box, except for the sticker!

Not a nubus power mac, but I know a Sonnet L2 cache slot upgraded Mac will work on 7.6.1.

I don't know which drivers, if any, are necessary for that generation, but that would be the kicker. I don't think I tried with 7.5.3 on my 4400, just went straight to 7.6.1. Wouldn't hurt to try, I suppose. Finding the earliest driver would be the best bet.

I say if necessary, because sometimes they're just not needed, but I might be thinking of the G3 zif upgrade for beige/b&w ... My 4400 needed a driver init

I have the Sonnet G3 NuBus at 500 mhz installed on all the three partitions of my hard drive and it works perfectly. I have installed Mac OS 7.6.1, 8.1 and 9.04. I think it works also with 7.5.3. Especially with the 7.6.1 my 6116CD really flies.

I forgot to mention that I need to install also the drivers in order for the Sonnet card to work. My floppy disk drive seems that it does not work anymore because i tried to install recently the drivers for sonnet and mac MouseStick with no success. Thanks to www.macintoshgarden.org i found the drivers and did my job. The good thing also is that you can go to sonnet extension and disable it. So you can have again the real speed. This only for games that run too fast. The difference is so big that you will never want to disable the sonnet. For me one of the best buys i have done for my Retro macs.

I think it could make bigger difference than you'd think at first because most people would have had stock configurations at lower speeds with less ram. So presumably most of the software of the time was developed with those lower specs as the target. As a consequence it may well be that most everything runs better with the extra headroom in the CPU (and maybe RAM) department. It seems like today's developers may be targeting the upper end more often that not leaving people with older/slower hardware in the absolute last place...

Sounds like there are a bunch of people in need of new manual inject floppy drives. I do have a bunch for sale for not much if people want them.
