475 boots but then hangs

I've got a stock 475 that up until recently, worked perfectly.  It has the original HD in it.  Now, when I boot, right before it is done, a dialog pops up that never fully displays, and the mouse freezes.  I've tried starting with extensions disabled, same thing.  I've checked the startup folder and there is nothing in there.  I can boot from an external SCSI2SD just fine, and see the internal hard drive just fine.  I was able to copy all the contents off the internal HD without errors.

Any ideas?

I’d personally just reformat the drive and try again: what’s the harm if you backed it all up?

Doesn't TechTool Pro have the ability to repair system folder, and specifically Finder errors? But I'm kinda of LaPorta's opinion. If you've backed up vital data, a re-install might be good due diligence.

And the winner is ... TechTool Pro.  I ran it, it repaired some but not all of the stuff wrong with the hard drive, and it boots again.  Thanks for the tip @jessenator.

No problem. It fixed my "Melory" control panel issue (Memory was misspelled in the Apple Menu and wouldn't open it, though the control panel was just fine).

I'm curious. Did it say specifically what it fixed?
