400K drive too noisy

I tried to look for information about this, but I couldn’t find anything useful.

I’m restoring a 512K which is good shape, and the floppy is giving me most of work. The mechanism was stuck and I managed to solve it. Now the disk inserts and ejects fine. But is too noisy when spinning. It doesn’t sound healthy at all.

Is it possible to lubricate the rotor bearings or something like that? If yes… I’d appreciate if you can point me to some doc or video explaining about that.

Probably but not easy, some unsoldering required.
Moreover that part is pretty fragile, so the risk is to get the part damaged in the process.
Not an easy task for sure.

I did further dismantling and I’d say the rotor is not that bad… maybe the noise is just friction of the top side pad… I don’t know.

Question… is it normal that a 400k drive spins up and down (almost to an stop) while reading, or maybe when there are read errors?

No, not really, just spin freely.

I tried to add some drops of oil in the motor shaft and it seems that now the rotating speed is consistent... I even managed to boot once, but normally I get the 0F0064 error shortly after the happy Mac.
I don't know if the boot disks I made are reliable, so I'll try to create a couple more of floppies and see if I can get a better result.
