2300c Clutch Covers Stuck

I'm attempting to replace the original HD with a SD adapter but I'm being thwarted by the clutch covers. The previous owner used some glue to keep the front and back display panels together sometime back in 1999. It no longer holds but it appears that they used quite a bit and the clutch covers will not budge.

Its entirely possible that the glue isn't causing this issue. I'm following the Service Source guide. Only one cover will move slightly but it won't come out. The other will not budge.

Is it really necessary to remove the clutch covers to pull the top case off? Considering the plastics, I don't want to explore that angle without some advice.

Success! A little heat, some wiggling, slight prying and voila! There was red glue residue around the covers. I'm going to assume the previous owner was determined to keep the panels together. IMG_3425.JPG

At last, a PRAM battery that looks relatively easy to duplicate and that is unlikely to leak.

Lots of white crumbles. Of the four batteries, one had corroded in the unit but instead of creating a discolored mess, it only seemed to spread these around.

Testing/installation set up. Now if I could only find my 7.6.1 CD-ROM...

I can only laugh at this point: the Duo Dock won't turn on. It worked just fine in November and has been unplugged since. It didn't even give me the clicking failure noise...simply nothing but a warm power supply and no power. A project for another time; I still need to get 7.6 installed...

Thankfully I didn't put the clutch covers back so opening it up again won't be as tough. I will have to put the SD card into a reader and connect it to my venerable G4 AGP and install the OS.
