190 —> 190cs upgrade?

I have a 190 with bad screen hinge plastics and the opportunity to get a 190cs with a bad main board but good screen. Can I just replace the 190 screen assembly with the 190cs one and be plug and play?

I recall tampering with 190/cs/5300/c/ce and provided the right bezels and the right inverter are used any combination is possible.

My favorite of the 190/5300 series are the grayscale models because they're thinner, slightly faster because they can only display 16 grays, and better for viewing in bright light because they have fewer filters than the color panels. But, just to sort of pile on here, yes, the 190 can take pretty much any screen from any of the 190 or 5300 series. You can potentially use the 5300ce's 800x600 panel, even, but because of your limited VRAM you'd have a max of 256 colors and screen redraws would likely be painfully slow. Battery life would also take a hit but that's not likely a concern anymore since the battery is probably dead.

Why are the screens interchangeable? The official Apple PowerPC "upgrade" for the 190 series basically involved replacing the original logic board with that from a 5300(cs) (usually 512k/8/100), and the screens had to be compatible for this to work.
