1710av Monitor (screen brightness preference reset?)

Greetings,

First off I am well aware of the issues with these monitors, overall, however it works, has a stable display currently, just is a bit dim, and especially after I installed the AppleVision control panel.

Before I installed Applevision extension, the display was quite bright (actually). Was a bit over the top but with the menus in the monitor I could tone it down enough for the mostly audio work I am doing.

What I am wondering is can I remove the saved calibration or settings from my Mac to revert back to before I installed the extension? In OS X it would be as simple as deleting a Plist file, however my muscle memory in using Res Edit isn't good enough. I have unchecked / uninstalled the Applevision extension, however the monitor is still locked into a dimmer mode than I would like.

I am well aware that 640x480 is max res without the extension, but the monitor is kind of far, and I am mostly doing Audio so am totally fine with the jumbo resolution ;) .

That looks like a great example!

You shouldn't have to use resedit, it'll either be saved as a [thing] Preferences file somewhere in the system folder, or what you may be seeing is the calibration of the display - check out the monitors control panel and look at the color preferences, there should be some color temperatures listed, adjust that and see if that gets you back where you're expecting to be!

Thanks for your response! Monitor has been with me for a while, but sadly forgotten and left in a closet for about 10+ years :( . I was extremely happy when it came online and actually still works. Audio on these things is still unreal, it’s like it has a Bose wave radio built into a monitor!

When I dug out this monitor, I discovered I actually owned a mint Apple Keyboard II which is replacing my more bulky PowerPC era extended keyboard.

Regarding your excellent tip, I totally forgot about the Preferences folder and have since deleted the various preference files and rebooted. So far this hasn’t changed anything, but your tip is HUGE as it helped me fix something else I was battling with my Quadra 840av since I recapped it!

I will unplug the monitor overnight, perhaps it is saving something in some kind of local memory that is causing some of my issues.

Again thanks for the tip!
