17” studio display making my Quicksilver crash

I recently picked up a Qucksilver 933 and 17” ADC studio display that appeared to be in great condition. It passes the Apple Hardware test without any failures and I’ve swapped in known good RAM just in case. The problem is that it crashes randomly, especially when waking from sleep or sometimes won’t even boot beyond a grey screen.

The USB hub on the display was cutting out so I went a hooked up a generic Momitor over VGA and hooh crap, no more crashes.. Rock solid. I’ve never heard of flaky display making a computer crash. Anyone else have similar experiences?

I'd suspect a marginal PSU - check voltages with the ADC display running, also wake from sleep crashes were usually related to USB or third-party card issues - try pulling them and reintroduce one at a time.

No third party card. All slots empty and only usb devices are the keyboard and mouse.

I’ll have to figure out how to check the power supply.

Well, turns out it probably was the monitor, at least in part. Picked up an identical 17" Studio Display on FaceBook Marketplace (for $20!) and it's been working fine for 3 days now with no difficulties waking from sleep and the USB hub actually seems to work fine. 🤷🏻‍♂️
