I orderd similiar here, shipping from france

Thanks (also to Phipli)!

Delivering to Germany seems to make it more difficult (surprise... though that should not happen in the EU). eBay tells me that "For tax reasons it is currently not possible to buy from this seller. We apologize for any inconvenience and recommend that you search for similar items from other sellers.{e138734-1017509x}"... oh well.

I think the seller is @Siliconinsider so maybe you can contact him via this forum to arrange the sale?

Howdy, there's a lot of red tape now enforced by eBay to sell in Germany, even if you're within the EU. First you need to register a VAT number in Germany, and then register to the LUCID Verpackungsgesetz and pay for a yearly fee based on the estimate of shipping material trash that will end up in Germany. I think many small sellers like me will not bother.

I'm also on Tindie and that will work for German purchases.

That's too bad.

I'm nowhere near Germany, but it still stinks.

It reminds me somewhat of the thing eBay did sometime last year where they decided to make it mandatory for sellers to have a traditional bank account linked to the eBay account in order to sell.

It doesn't cost anything I don't think, but it's a potential security risk that I'm not comfortable with (plus it's a nuisance).

It seems like eBay is getting more and more hostile toward the small sellers, and doing nagging things like this to discourage them.

I think the requirement was from the IRS and the ability for them to properly “audit” people’s sales on eBay.

Canada also did a similar thing as a few other counties that have similar type governments, all around the same time in fact.

And it’s not limited to eBay either. I used to be involved in a lot of LEGO buying and as a hobby. I also sold a few things I didn’t need. That site, BrickLink, was recently contacted by the IRS and the CRA so that they can collect data on citizens selling through the site. I got an email warning that information had to be current and updated so that they could report all sales to the tax authorities.

BrickLink is presently owned by The LEGO Group, because they purchased it from the family of the guy who set it up decades ago. So the requirement is official, as LEGO is quite a big corporation and wouldn’t tell fibs about that.

Yeah.

PayPal isn't immune either: starting January 1 of this year, the minimum amount anyone can be paid before it needs to be reported as taxable income – and I don't think specifying Goods/Services or Friends/Family matters – went from $20,000 to only $600. That just feels like a shoddy money grab on the IRS' part, because many people in this hobby can make $600 without even trying! Just sell one or two Macs at eBay-like prices!

Meanwhile, what about all the billionaires who have been getting away with tax rates that are effectively 0% for decades? (This is a rhetorical question, as the answer is obvious, but political, so it shouldn't be discussed here because the people of this forum, by and large, actually follow the rules!).

It's just a big farce....

Anyway, sorry for the thread derailment. Back on topic now:

These are handy little adapters! I have yet to need any, but I'll definitely keep them in mind when I do.

It's not just eBay indeed, but all online platforms that have to comply. I think eBay is taking a no risk approach though, because you should not need to open a German VAT if you sell below €10k/year, but eBay does bar you if you don't provide them with the number regardless. As for the LUCID act it's at the European level and will be enforced for each of the EU countries you'd wish to sell. It is however not implemented at the EU level, this mean that you'd have to register/pay the LUCID tax + estimate the yearly weight of each packaging material types, for each of the countries you sell to. There are now outlets to consolidate the registration effort, so far only Germany has enforced it and asked online platforms to comply.

@CC_333 In California (don't know about elsewhere), fees are inseparable from a total sale, which seems unfair (there may be a legitimate reason to do it this way, but it sucks for my situation.) If you sell something for $100, then eBay charges a $25 fee as a part of the sale, you still have to pay taxes on $100 even though you only get $75. So that $25 gets taxed twice: once as income for the seller, and once as income for eBay.

The capacity of the CR2032 is much less than the 1/2 AA lithium cells. Has anyone had enough experience yet to judge the lifespan of the CR2032 in this setting?

The one in my Centris 650 seems to be working fine. Installed it about 14 months ago.
