Agreed.
I spent most of August fighting what turned out to be a bad 'dd' image. It seems that Quadra 950s are extremely picky about partition layouts and boot ordering. In some cases I've simply not been able to boot an image, no matter what.
This was the other reason for avoiding multiple...
We discussed dual-booting, and decided it made little sense to support both A/UX and another OS (or several), as the image is made to be written to an easily-swapped SD card.
The first major barrier to experimentation with A/UX is obtaining compatible hardware.
Once you have the hardware, the second has been the installation process, which is, frankly, burdensome and finicky.
@pb3623 and I have been working on creating a "clean" A/UX installation that can be dd'd...
Nope, a single 5gb partition. Seems to work great, but we'll see.
Next is to mount it at /opt . I'm not clear on the differences between mtab and fstab. I'll change it in both places and see if it works.
The answer is: nope.
From what I can tell, A/UX can't "see" those volumes at all.
I found a GUI Drive Setup utility in /mac/bin that worked. Destroyed the existing volume and HFS partitions, then partitioned 5GB for A/UX.
I suspected as much.
In that case how do I format them from within A/UX?
I'm not sure how to verify their device names, which I thought I needed for mkfs.
How do I mount existing Mac-formatted volumes within A/UX?
I have A/UX running on a SD card via SCSI2SD.
/ is on /dev/dsk/c0d0s0 (from my memory, so may be wrong).
Volumes for System 7 and 8, "Backups" and "Apps" show up on the A/UX desktop.
I'm running out of space on /. I'd like to use...
As I posted in some other thread here, I have a Q950 bezel with the round button and a set of calipers.

I can make as many measurements as anyone needs, though I don't know CAD.
What's the best path to upgrading 8.0 on a Quadra 950 to 8.1, if the installer shows the drive as "unsupported"?
I got 8.0 on this Apple-branded IBM 2GB SCSI HDD by booting from a SCSI2SD image that has Anubis installed on it. I also had to use an external SCSI CDROM drive, as the internal...
I have both a Lombard and a Wallstreet, but neither boot. I've asked here for suggestions, and the suggestion was "try new RAM", which I don't own. (I did try removing individual sticks, which is no easy task in a Lombard, with no joy.)
I just obtained a working MP2000, and am faced with the bootstrap problem. I have no interconnect dongle, and I don't yet have any PCMCIA cards.
Is anyone in the Atlanta area willing to provide a bootstrap card?
Also, I have 2 non-working MP100s. One doesn't power on at all. The other one...
The hinges appear fine, and the video cable seems to be intact. Video doesn't work from either the display or from the VGA port to a monitor.
At this point I've removed and reseated the RAM, PRAM battery, modem, and CPU. It chimes on boot, but I get no video whatsoever.
