Mac OS 8.6 for (some) Unsupported G3s and G4s

ahh its still not quite right im afraid this is what you should do :) dev /cpus/PowerPC,G4 000c0206 encode-int " cpu-version" property unselect-dev and if you want to actually see the changes before and after you would want to do it like so dev /cpus/PowerPC,G4 .properties 000c0206...

Mac OS 8.6 for (some) Unsupported G3s and G4s

BTW @Phipli I was just reading the page you made for it, and I notice your instructions for spoofing the CPU PVR are not quite correct, please refer to this post I made on MR on how to do it correctly :)...

Mac OS 8.6 for (some) Unsupported G3s and G4s

did you do a .properties check after spoofing the CPU PVR to make sure the changes had indeed gone through? the checksum error is normal, but I note your trying that on an AlBook, so I think its hanging up on the GPU side of things, most later apple portables and AIO's dont have the GPU's NDRV...

Mac OS 8.6 for (some) Unsupported G3s and G4s

Sweet stuff! glad to see my modified ROM is being put to good use :) a few things to note: the MacOS8.6 ROM is quite picky about which Video card it will work with, for best results, use only an ATI Video card with a full ROM (this is why certain machines like Snow iBooks and iMacs fail to...

Sonnet Encore G4 firmware AFTER card has been installed

have you made sure the G4 Cube's firmware itself is full up to date? 4.1.9 is the latest IIRC I think only later versions of the firmware natively support the 7455, so something worth double checking

550MHz G4 PowerBook (Pismo vs Titanium)

Sadly nothing with a Uninorth, I think the oldest schematic I ever found was for a GigE TiBook and that is a 7450 based machine sadly although that being said I think I do have schematics for a later iBook G3 if thats any use? but thats 750FX machine IIRC yeah I was just catching up on the...

550MHz G4 PowerBook (Pismo vs Titanium)

ok thats seriously Awesome! the whole 60x vs MPX bus mode thing is something I have been wondering since I did my very first Pismo upgrade in December 2016! at first I did wonder if it would switch over automaticly, but later on studying schematics for PowerBook G4's etc, showed there where...

    General G3/G4 ZIF upgrade questions

in my experiance the 500Mhz G4 7410 Sonnet ZIF has 3 settings Max-multiplier-9X mode if FSB is less than 66Mhz, if 66Mhz then 7.5 and if more than 66Mhz it goes into 5x mode for 100Mhz expected FSB operation...

Interest in adapting 744x to 7400?

ooh yeah id be very interested in seeing an interposer developed! I know there is someone on here who has made a 7450-7455 BGA483 to BGA360 interposer to retrofit 7447A's and 7448's to existing DA/QS/MDD cards but it would be awesome to see such an interposer for all the other PPC CPU's...

    PPC750GX vs. PPC750GL?

Oh wow thats amazing! hopefully you can get the remaining niggles sorted before not too long and get it booting :) its actually a really good thing you added those PLL dip-switches because the achilles heel of the PowerLogix 750FX and 750GX CPUs is their base multiplier is only set to about...

    Apple Network Server 500/132

in theory you should be able to boot OS X directly on an ANS without any need to swap ROMs since the ANS does run OpenFirmware as OS X bypasses any need for a Toolbox ROM image and boots directly from OpenFirmware including on OWR macs the only things you would need to do is figure out what...

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

one thing ill punt out there to keep in mind is that if you install OS 9 on a mac without a USB card installed, then by default it wont install USB drivers, so installing a PCI USB card after install time wont work OOB on any old world Mac I found this out the hard way back in the day when I...

    PPC750GX vs. PPC750GL?

interesting! it reminds me of the e2v 7410's etc :) https://www.cpushack.com/2015/04/09/the-e2v-powerpc-and-hitce-packages/ do you have any pics of the CPUs? do they look like new CPUs or used/reballed pulls? No problem! saves me having worry about getting to the post office! but if you do end...

    PPC750GX vs. PPC750GL?

Yeah :) BTW for what its worth while most ZIF's I have seen use the same pin-header with a black plastic interposer, I have noticed sonnet ZIF's used something else with a white/translucent interposer, perhaps something to look into incase it tells you where to find em or how to go about making...

    PPC750GX vs. PPC750GL?

    PPC750GX vs. PPC750GL?

from what I understand the the 750GL was just a lower power version of the 750GX (and the lower power version of the 750FX was similarly called the 750FL) they are fully interchangeable and identical otherwise, they are the same hardware just binned for different applications :) (I have seen...

scsi voodoo on a quadra 700 with an 80 pin hd

ah thats good to know :)   I have a drive-less 9600 that one of these days I really need to sort out some sort of SCSI drive for at some point! (I use a PCI ATA card for most things I do with it, but that does not work if I want to mess with the more obscure OS's like OS X Server 1.x for...
