Padding out the Wiebe firmware should be enough. If you look at the end of it in a hex editor you can see that it's already been padded out to 64k. Just add another 64k of Fs to it until the firmware is 128k (131072 bytes) in size and then flash with updflash from a DOS bootdisk.
I inserted the...
I picked up a USB programmer some time back to fix a bad BIOS flash and had it in the back of my mind to read in the EEPROM from this SuperMac card at some stage.
Well, I've just popped off the chip and read it out to the attached file. I can't make much sense out of the dump, but maybe someone...
It's not a program, just an extension. It stops the system trying to create/update the desktop database on read-only volumes. You still need a driver of some kind for your CD drive.
If you're using a non-Apple drive I had pretty good success with the freeware CD Sunrise driver. I think it...
The B&W G3 is handy as it still has ADB. Also I thought it was one of the nicest looking machines.
I have a Gigabit Ethernet for heavier lifting and a dead MDD that I'll have to try and get a PSU for at some stage.
With OS X restore disks it's possible to bypass the machine check. This is particularly handy for Intel Tiger machines as the retail version was PowerPC only. With earlier versions of OS X I'm not sure if the check was absent or just contained a wider range of supported machines. I know I used...
It's a bit hazy now. I think I was unable to connect to the SFM share with some systems, while I had no trouble with netatalk. It worked OK with System 7.5.3 anyway as I used it when I was installing Copland (you can see the Shared Folder on the desktop).
I had it running on my XP bootcamp...
Bookmarked! There's a ton of great info in there.
For Windows, it's possible to install Services for Macintosh on Windows 2000 Pro or XP. You need a copy of Windows 2000 Server to access the required files however. But I found netatalk to be more compatible.
I don't think it's just this area of apple.com. I tried downloading the current Snow Leopard security update a couple of days ago and got a 404. Tried the link a second time and it kicked in.
But either way, backup this stuff if you can. Can't assume it'll be online forever.
Sweet. Glad you got it up and running! And thanks for confirming that 2.2.4 is a no-go. I haven't ran into any issues with 2.1.6 here so it's a keeper for me.
I kept my VM as minimal as possible so it doesn't have any GUI. It just boots to a login prompt.
For avahi here's my notes. They're...
Did you just paste my eth settings into the end of /etc/default/netatalk changing eth0 for eth1? That's the wrong file anyway so you should remove that.
If it's not there already just add "eth1" to the end of atalkd.conf and restart netatalk.
This is what I have in /etc/default/netatalk:
# Netatalk configuration
# Change this to increase the maximum number of clients that can connect:
AFPD_MAX_CLIENTS=20
# Change this to set the machine's atalk name and zone.
# NOTE: if your zone has spaces in it, you're better off specifying

I'm not sure what would run well on a Tiger Pismo. I know Tiger didn't feel that great on my G3 iBook and that had 800MHz and 640MB RAM.
Here's a couple of basic VST hosts I found:

If you're looking for organ sounds try the Combo V and Combo F at Martinic. They're free, universal and sound great (to me anyway). I can't say how well they'll run on a Pismo but it won't cost you anything to find out. They're plugins so you'll need a host of some kind (like Garageband).
